I know Oldies said skip, but I figured I'd make one of me vs. him and then me vs. Goldwater, because why not? Wink

Governor TNF (D-Ky.) and Gov. Goldwater (R-Wash.) face off against one another in an election almost entirely defined by domestic issues, due to their similar foreign policy standpoints. This leads to the third party candidacy of Florida Democrat SJoyce, who runs as an independent in opposition to both candidates on drone policy and strides the center in economic policy.

In the end, Congressman SJoyce does well enough to force a tie in the electoral college and send the race to Congress. The Republican held House elects Goldwater President and selects TNF's running-mate, Hockeydude, as Vice President.

Gov. Oldies (R-Mich.) manages to convince the North and West that his opponent, Gov. TNF (D-Ky.) is a dastardly Southron socialist and also supporter of slavery, or something. Things get worse for the TNF campaign when Oldies conjures the ghost of Jefferson Davis to endorse him for the White House, though this, combine with Oldies' anti-Southern statements, delivers TNF the South by a resounding margin.

In the end, Governor Oldies wins in a 271-267 squeaker.

269-269 tie between Kentucky Governor TNF and Senator Nix of New York. House Republicans, terrified of Gov. TNF's platform (which includes such niceties like paid sick leave, paid vacations, paid holidays, and repealing Taft-Hartley) ultimately side with the more fiscally moderate Senator Nix, giving him the White House.

In the closest election in recorded history, populist Kentucky Governor TNF faces off against libertarian Governor Goldwater of Washington. In a 270-268 squeaker, Goldwater manages a victory, with the race coming down to the crucial second Congressional district of Maine, which for the first time votes for a Republican nominee for President.

Gov. TNF (D-KY) / Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI): 48% (268)
Gov. Goldwater (R-WA) / Gov. Rick Perry (D-TX): 48% (270)

The Democratic primary between Senator TNF (D-KY) and Governor PJ (D-NM) is a roller-coaster as both candidates largely share agreement on fiscal issues, moving the election beyond the realm of the fiscal and into that of social issues. TNF takes a more liberal stand than does PJ except on gun control, which also comes to define the race. Governor PJ ultimately prevails with a coalition of upper middle class, socially liberal whites opposed to TNF's position on gun control and more socially conservative minority groups. Governor TNF's losing coalition of working class whites, union members, and rural Democrats ultimately manage to prevent the party from adopting a strict gun control stance in the official party platform however.

A close matchup between a libertarian Republican, Gov. Goldwater of Washington and a social Democrat, Sen. TNF of Kentucky. As the race got underway, Gov. Goldwater selected as his running-mate Gov. Supersonic of Tennessee, hoping to solidify his position among Southern conservatives and Southerners in general whilst facing off against a Southern Democrat. Sen.TNF chose as his running-mate Sen. PoliticsJunkie of New Mexico, doubling down on his economic-issue driven campaign while minimizing culture war rhetoric. In the end, both candidates won their home states by the smallest of margins, and Sen. TNF's 'Rust Belt Strategy' proved unable to gain enough traction to push him over the line, though it did help him hold both Ohio and Michigan against a strong challenger, and gain Indiana's electoral votes. Ultimately the race came down to the state of West Virginia, which went to Governor Goldwater by just 200 votes, cementing the race as the closest in recent memory. Sen. TNF conceded to Governor Goldwater shortly after a recount certifying the results of the election, working with the incoming administration on social issues and some defense-related legislation.

Congressman Oldiesfreak (R-Mich.), a representative of Detroit suburbia and the sole Republican member of the Congressional Black Caucus, defeats Senator TNF (D-Ky.) in a 270-268 electoral college squeaker. The race, which realigned the electoral map, was one of the most pivotal in American electoral history, with a left-wing Southern Democrat facing off against a moderate (if partisan) Northern Republican. Both campaigns engaged in strong partisan rhetoric, something readily reflected in the results, albeit backwards from what one might expect. This is in part because of Rep. Oldiesfreak being caught on tape at a closed door fundraiser decrying Southerners as "white trash" and "treasonous", a remark that led scores of Southern Republicans to denounce his candidacy and instead support Senator TNF. Senator TNF's running-mate, Senator Snowstalker (D-Penn.) made a likewise notorious gaffe late in the campaign when he was caught on the campaign trail saying that "President Pingvin's Russia isn't all that bad," and that "we should emulate some of his programs here," leading to swift denunciations from pretty much everyone for his praise of the Russian dictator.

The debates proved a decisive victory for sanity, as the American public agreed with Senator TNF's desire to not 're-fight the Civil War', with the Senator accusing the Congressman of 'playing into ancient American hatreds.' Congressman Oldiesfreak denounced the Senator as a 'Southern Socialist', something that TNF did not deny, further damaging his campaign. The Vice Presidential debate between Senator Snowstalker and Rep. Oldiesfreak's running-mate proved to be a massive route for Senator Snowstalker, who was caught trying to defend his words about Pingvinist Russia.

1968.

As President Lyndon Johnson decides against seeking a second term, the Democratic nomination ultimately falls to Senator TNF of Kentucky, a man described by media outlets as a kind of 'Red George Wallace' or 'Latter-day Huey Long' owing to his strident social democratic politicking and Southern mannerisms, who wins the nomination as Vice President Humphrey and Governor Wallace bow out in his favor, Senator Kennedy (his closest rival) bites the bullet (literally) and Eugene McCarthy ends up as his running-mate. Running on a platform of peace in Vientam (helped out by LBJ halting the bombing), universal health care, and social reform, the Senator from Kentucky quickly makes inroads where the incumbent had lost ground, regaining the dominant position of the Democrats among blue collar workers, liberal intellectuals, and civil rights activists.

On the Republican side, Governor Cathcon of Michigan seals up the nomination by selecting South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond as his running mate, balancing the Northern conservative and Southern conservative wings of his party and catching voters who had fallen out from the Democrats as a result. Running on a platform of halting the growth of government, 'victory in Vietnam' and traditional conservatism at home, the Republican nominee proved a formidable foe for the Senator from Kentucky.

Ohio proved to be the closest state and the determinant of the occupant of the White House come January 20, 1969. Governor Cathcon won the White House, defeating Senator TNF 270-268.

Senator TNF (D-KY) / Senator Eugene McCarthy (D-MN) 268 electoral votes, 48% of the popular vote
Governor Cathcon (R-MI) / Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC) 270 electoral votes, 48% of the popular vote
