Republians nominated popular Libertarian Governor Maxwell over strong conservatives like Senator Supersonic (R-TN) and moderates like Congressman JerryArkansas (R-AR). Jerry became so disenchanted with the nomination, that he ran a campaign to become the Democrats VP nominee. The eventual winner of the nomination was General Mung Beans, a centrist military general, who beat out narrowly staunch liberal Senator TNF, decided to make that pick. Mung Beans led by margins of 10-15 points until the drug war became a serious issue after a massive riot in the streets of San Franisco, California. Mung Beans held to his idea that drugs should be illegal, while Maxwell fought against it, and made massive gains in Liberal states. Maxwell even led in some polls on the last day, but the General ended up pulling narrow victories in Democratic strongholds like Minnesota and Illinois.

General Mung Beans (D-CA)/Congressman JerryArkansas (R-AR) - 49.8%, 274 EV's
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)/Senator Sbane (R-CA) - 49.5%, 264 EV's
Others - 0.7%

1952

Congressman Maxwell (R-OK) - 45.2%, 523 Delegates
Governor Cathcon (R-MI) - 34.8%, 600 Delegates
Former Governor Harold Stassen - 16.4%, 59 Delgates
Unaffiliated - 3.6%, 24 Delegates

Harry Truman's bludgeoning unpopularity allowed an opening for Republicans. Would they go for the interventionist Governor of Michigan Cathcon, or the non-interventionist Congressman from Oklahoma Maxwell? As it ended up, it became clearer that Cathcon won the delegate race on the second ballot in spite of Maxwell's late delegate surge because of the state of California.

2000: Scott wins by 4 points over Maxwell

Former Senator Scott (D-CT)/Governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) - 51.3%, 317 EV's
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)/Congressman John Kasich (R-OH) - 46.9%, 221 EV's

Former Connecticut Senator and centrist Scott managed to come out of a blood bath between Vice President Al Gore and Senator Bill Bradley. Meanwhile, the Republican field managed to produce a candidate who many felt was outside the mainstream, Conservative Oklahoma Governor Maxwell. Scott and Maxwell even had some agreements on certain fiscal issues, but Scott led in most of the polls along the way. Florida was surprisingly close, but Scott pulled off easily.

Libertarians vs. Republicans: The Battle for the 2008 Nomination

Senator Supersonic (R-TN) - 64.6%, 1539 Delegates
Governor Maxwell (R-OK) - 30.8%, 738 Delegates
Scattered Others - 4.6%, 31 Delegates

Senator Supersonic was everything the party could dream for: A conservative Senator, with a high approval rating, and some positions that would bring centrists into the fold. The only issue: a libertarian governor from Oklahoma, gaining supporters across both extremes: Liberal Republicans, upset with Supersonics pro-life and pro-gun control positions, and Future Tea Partiers, upset with the Senators willingness to compromise. Maxwell ran on his record of balanced budgets and low taxes in Oklahoma, and managed to come within 20 points of a victory in Iowa and winning New Hampshire (49 M - 44 S)... Something none of the pundits were expecting. After Supersonic barraged Maxwell in ads during Super Tuesday, however, the Governor slowed down to a loss in Ohio, causing him to withdraw from the race.

Supersonic would go on to narrowly defeat incumbent President Antonio California.

Senator Sawx (D-NH)/Former Senator Oakvale (D-AZ) - 53.8%, 375 EV's
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)/Senator TJ in Cleve (R-WI) - 44.9%, 163 EV's

Senator Sawx from New Hampshire turned out to be the next big thing, defeating such prominent opponents as Former Senator Oakvale, Former Vice President Bacon King, and liberal Georgia Governor Adam Griffin. He was a dark horse in the race, but proved to be a very strong general election candidate, and with Oakvale's interesting and appealing views to some small government friends, he moved the voters.

Republicans had less luck. Their original frontrunner, maverick Senator Clarence had a heart attack and dropped out of the race. This left a contentious battle between Kentucky Governor ZuWo, Governor and Former Senator Maxwell, Senator Hagrid, and Governor Cathcon. Maxwell ended up the winner, but even with a uniting pick of prominent social conservative TJ in Cleve, he could not make up the gap between him and Senator Sawx.

Secretary of Treasury ElectionsGuy defeats Oklahoma Senator Maxwell

Secretary of Treasury ElectionsGuy (R-WI)/Former Governor ZuWo (R-KY)
Senator Maxwell (D-OK)/Former Senator Sbane (D-TN)

President Harry Truman leaves office unpopular, doing damage to any Democrat who would run, especially with popular former Treasury Secretary ElectionsGuy, who protested the administration while leaving, winning the Republican nomination. Democrats said if you can't beat em, join em, and nominated fiscally conservative Oklahoma Senator Maxwell. However, his fiscal conservatism hurt him at first: trailing massively in most states. However, Electionsguy did damage to himself by running hard against the new deal, while Maxwell, seeing an oppurtunity to gain leverage, ran on fixing the New Deal, not destroying it. Electionsguy still won, but by a closer margin than most expected.

Senator Flo wins with a mandate

Senator Flo (D-FL)/Governor Sirnick (D-NY) - 52.4%, 345 EV's
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)/Senator DC Al Fine (R-MD) - 45.7%, 193 EV's
Others - 1.9%, 0 EV's

Former Senator and Governor of Oklahoma Maxwell, a libertarian pragmatist, somehow managed to take the Republican nomination for himself. His ideas were in stark difference to the Republican establishment, and when Florida Democrat Flo was nominated, he trailed by as much as 15 points across the nation. As the campaign went on, Maxwell chipped Flo's lead down, nominating Maryland Senator, DC Al Fine, a Moderate with socially conservative trends, and many liberals looked at the Flo ticket, with a fiscal conservative and Flo's hard on crime record, and Democrats were worried about Liberal turnout. However, Flo was in no danger of losing: he won the generic Democratic states plus North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Iowa, Nevada, and Arizona. However, Maxwell managed to swipe New Hampshire, and inspite of poor polling, he won Indiana.

Damn it FreedomHawk. Well, I made the map, so whatever.

1952 - A Time for Change
After nearly twenty years of Democratic control, Americans were finally ready for a change. Senator James "FreedomHawk" Nelson, a liberal Republican, sweeped the field with his broad message of freedom and hawkishness. Toward the end of his campaign, he faced a stiff challenge from Conservative California Congressman Ryan "Madman" Motley who won a last batch of primaries. Nelson, fearing a revolt if he runs with another liberal or a full on conservative, picked a moderate for his VP, Indiana Governor Timothy Bush.

On the Democratic side, the field was crowded with former non-contenders. What stood out was the campaigning techniques of conservative Governor of Oklahoma John Maxwell. Maxwell, an ardent fiscal conservative, proposed a repeal of a large portion of the new deal. In addition, he promised a complete change from the Truman years, promising to repeal the Truman doctrine and put into place a "no new wars policy". He alienated a lot of voters, but this strategy brought so many challengers that he won the divided convention handily due to his handy business connections. To make matters worse, he nominated Businessman Rodney Spiral, a former candidate for Missouri Governor, to be his Vice President. Rodney Spiral was his former campaign manager, and alienated a lot of Democrats.

Nelson was considered a shoe-in, but won an underwhelming margin after it was revealed in Early October that he had antagonized the Soviets in a private meeting with Josef Stalin after he shook a Russian Ambassador. Maxwell took full advantage of that exchange, and brought on a lot of old time, isolationist conservatives on to his ticket, picking up states that many thought he wouldn't win. Nelson, however, won the election, getting his last laugh.

Senator James "Freedom Hawk" Nelson (R-CT)/Governor Timothy Bush (R-IN) - 53.5%, 366 EV's
Governor John Maxwell (D-OK)/Businessman Rodney Spiral (D-MO) - 44.9%, 165 EVs
