Welcome to the Senate Committee on National Security.  The first order of business will be to hold hearings on the recent Treaty Ratification Amendment.  Therefore, I am inviting Senator NCYankee, the sponsor; SoEA Kalwejt, Ambassador Cathcon, and President Napoleon to come testify on this legislation.  That will then be followed by a vote on whether or not the full Senate should ratify the Amendment.

So let's get started!  Opening statements?

As far as I am aware, no procedures presently exist.

Mr. SoEA, I expect you to testify.  You have been summoned before this committee, and so you shall testify.

I want to make sure that this applies only to defense treaties and not any sort of trade agreement.

Traditionally, FTA's have been separate; certainly all the ones we've passed have had only a majority requirement.

Indeed.  The vote is now open on whether this Committee believes the amendment should be passed.  Please vote aye, nay, or abstain.

Aye

Nope; we're going to go next into overview hearings on foreign policy.  The President, SoEA, and Ambassador are all called to testify.  Then we'll move to the Iran bill.  On this one, the SoEA will have to testify, or else.

Senators, I'll gladly discuss the new developments regarding Iran with you.

Thank you, Mr. Secretary.  This hearing is an overview hearing on foreign policy; if you could please submit a statement summarizing our international actions with a special focus on the Iranian negotiations it would be much appreciated Smiley

Senator,

Do you believe that this new openness will be able to in any way calm fears amongst our allies, especially Israel, that Iran will not use its nuclear capabilities to harm the State of Israel?

I want to add that the Department of External Affairs, while is ready to consider a lot of issues during, hopefully incoming, talks, will not compromise on Israel's right to existence.

Good to know.  Could you explain the Department's other activities at present, strategic goals, etc?

I hate to point this out but with the exception of the all the comments posted on the 12th, this committee has been silent for two separate sets of three days each. Tongue

Well, the individuals called to testify ain't talking much Tongue

I meant for the SoEA to answer the question.  Mr. President, what is your view on the matter?

Thank you, Mr. President.

What has and/or what can Atlasia do to improve relations with Islamic nations like Egypt, Libya, and Turkey?

Mr. Ambassador, what actions have you been engaged in on your trip abroad?  Have they yielded any sort of diplomatic fruit?

Could the Acting SoEA potentially give an answer fairly soon?

Urgh.  To all those testifying, please give your opinions on Senator Clarence's Iran Resolution in your testimony.

There's not much I can do when Kal disappears, Yankee, and I don't have the power to force Cathcon to testify yet.

Cathcon has been summoned to appear since he is now the nominee to be the next SoEA, and to give an opinion on the Iran legislation, killing two birds with one statement.

Cathcon, what is your expert opinion about the Iran legislation?

And now everyone has testified.  Senators, should the Senate pass this resolution?  Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

And we're back!  I am going to start by summoning SoEA Cathcon to appear before us and testify about what he's been up to.

CATHCON, YOU ARE SUMMONED.

As soon as Cynic presents a full version of the "Factbook", we'll begin hearings on it.  Until then, sit tight guys.

That would be delightful; that will also allow me to introduce it formally as legislation.

Let us begin!  Mr. Secretary, can you explain the deviations from the last policy?  Specifically, your policies relating to China, Iran, Mexico, Turkey, and Libya?
