I've been around for 2006, 2008, 2010 ... but I don't think I've seen a worse season.

I come here to debate issues, trying to use facts as the basis of these debates. But for so many, they reside in the realm of basing what they'd read on a blog or saw on a program driven by opinion, not information.

Honestly, when I, a pretty calm and not easily flustered type, is actively avoiding huge chunks of the forum because I know this isn't about a debate or reasoned discussion, it's about shouting opinions at each other, and treating them as facts... it's time to spend some time away.

To the mindless trolls (of both sides), congratulations, you've managed to lower the already somewhat fragile tone of this place and turned it into a sideshow. To those sensible posters who are encouraging them, just because they agree with them... I can't say much...

I'm convinced this is only going to get worse before it gets better.


I'll be back at some point, and I will still vote in Atlasia.

Aw Polnut, I'm sad to see a thread like this coming from you.  You always provide fair and rational opinions to the forum, even when certain individuals don't do the same.  I encourage you to stay, but I understand if you want to go for a little while.  Just don't let the noise of a few trolls take over the board, because then they win.

I, too, can be appalled at some of the hackishness from some leftist posters or the ignorance and hatred from some of the conservative posters but its our job to stand up and help keep rational discussion going. It's easy to put the morons on ignore. There's too many posters worth talking to that leaving doesn't make sense. Filter out the trash and enjoy yourself. That's what I do.

Sorry to see you go Polnut.  I certainly understand how you feel.  I post less on politics than I used to, partly for the reasons you give and some others.  Nonetheless, I still get valuable information here and try to get as much as I can from the quality posters, of whom you surely are one.  All best wishes and looking forward to whenever you may decide to return.

Sigh...this is truly a sad day in the history of the Atlas Forum. Oakvale and Polnut leaving...well, I really did enjoy reading your posts, Polnut. Whether it be in Atlasia with your terms as President or on the rest of the forum, you've always been a pleasure around here. You say you won't, but I think I speak for a majority of the forum when I say you should consider coming back some day.
