Protesters damage Obama Oakland office
Quote
Protesters smashed a large window at President Obama's re-election campaign office in downtown Oakland late Friday night, tore down a nearby fence and vandalized cars, according to police, witnesses and video footage.

Staffers and volunteers were inside the Organizing for America office at 1714 Telegraph Ave. when it was vandalized after 9 p.m., but no one was hurt, said a staffer who declined to be identified. The office is a joint effort of the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

When the window was broken, well over 100 people had joined what began as a rally against the city's handling of growing crowds at the first-Friday-of-the-month event called Art Murmur, a gallery crawl centered in the Uptown arts district from 6 to 9 p.m.

Protesters - who included Occupy Oakland activists - said the city was cracking down on vendors and performers who came into the neighborhood during the gallery crawl without permits. Until June, the galleries had closed down a block of 23rd Street, but the approach got too expensive and hectic.

The unique misfortune of the Palestinian refugees is that they are a weapon in what seems to be a permanent war...today, in the Middle East, you get a repeated sinking sensation about the Palestinian refugees: they are only a beginning, not an end. Their function is to hang around and be constantly useful as a goad. The ultimate aim is not such humane small potatoes as repatriating refugees.

Maybe, it was "art crawl" and "occupy" types.  A lot of overlap there I'm guessing.

The Obama Oakland office has yet to prove its business model in the free market.

Sounds like another hit piece against Occupy by the San Francisco Chronicle. The Chronicle has been caught lying about Occupy before.

What is there to lie about occupy? It's full of anarchists and anarchists do things like this. Be it the violence in the occupy protests, may day protests or the protest against Johan Mehserly, the ones causing problems are always the anarchists.

Strange. The only violence I've ever seen at Occupy protests was by Tea Party types assaulting Occupy.

I don't think hit pieces against Occupy can exist, considering Occupy is no longer active. These are likely post-Occupy left-wing protester types; the sort who were part of Occupy while it was active.

Solicit donations, coordinate volunteer phone banks to call voters in swing states, etc.

You need to see an optometrist.  While the Occupy people generally did fairly well at rooting out the violent anarchist types, they were not completely successful.

They were completely successful. I have been deeply involved in Occupy for 10 months and have not seen a single instance of violence created by Occupy.

Well, I'm a little bit sympatethic to Occupy, but I didn't saw any sign of life of them in Montreal since last fall. They were students strikes, most probably supported by them, but they clearly weren't the core neither the organisors.

But this isn't Oakland, which has anarchists who like to disrupt thing.

And, keep in mind it wasn't the entire Occupy movement, but a subgroup of some the members.

Yep. Great article in the New York Times magazine covered this exact topic this last Sunday. Basically Oakland in some ways never made it out of the 60s/70s.

Also when it comes to Occupy I think it completely depends on where you live. In Seattle for example the movement fragmented after more extreme elements managed to vote down a proposal to incorporate a non-violence plank into the group's ethos.

LOL.
Given the number of members they have, I'm pretty sure than there is at least one violent person in them.
