Romney and company pulled in another 100 million in July. With almost 200 million cash on hand, the amount of firepower they will have in the next three months is going to be unprecedented.

Updated: Obama /DNC raise 75 mil

Romney is the one who needs to raise the most he's the challenger obama is the incumbent. Obama is leading in most if not all swing states and romney is not. Romney can raise a billion and obama will still be leading.

Except the thing is, I've yet to see Romney come out with a really good ad. Some of the long web ads about patriotism and whatnot have been really good, but the TV ads he's come out with are amateurish at best.

So, what will the Romney camp do with all this money ?

All the battleground states are saturated with ads already and even if you raise 75 Mio. a month like Obama it is enough to run a great deal of ads in each swing state.

We all know that Meg Whitman spent 200 Mio. in California in 2010, while Jerry Brown spent only 30 Mio. and still won by 13% ...

It would be great if Team Romney ends the election with 100 or so million in the bank and a loss of 3-5% nationally ... Tongue

Register new voters as the GOP is succeeding in doing in Iowa and not so well in Nevada.

I'm with TB here. Remember the CEO triplets. Money isn't everything. Now if this money goes towards winning the ground war... that's another story.

Maybe it is me putting too much assumption with the non-existing NVGOP ground game but at least in my home state that won't happen.

25% of all donations were below $250, which for Romney is a pretty good achievement. No way will he replicate team Obama on the small donor front, but he has to somewhat narrow the President's advantage, which seems to be coming about according to the latest figures.

I've got to say though, I never thought Romney would succeed so well on the fundraising front. Not too long ago, most though Obama would raise over $1 billion dollars!

It will be interesting to see where both campaigns are with cash on hand.

But it seems the Romney campaign will be able to outspend the Obama campaign in the final months, especially when you add in SuperPacs.

I suspect the actual Romney campaign will spend a lot on GOTV, registration and other ground operations that cant be done by the superpacs. He will rely on the superpacs to help dominate the TV war in September/October and for them to do the real negative stuff while his campaign focuses on trying to humanize Romney

They need to get very loose with the cash on the organization and fast.

And their ads have to get better and more strategically focused. I would pull all the ads that are negative about the economy running and replace them with just one with line from I think the Washington Post saying it would be 2025 before unemployment returned to normal levels. Most people who are voting on the economy know that it sucks, and beyond warning them of the prospect that it could last a long time, you don't need to waist money telling them the obvious.

Referendum days are over, it is time to make Romney a plausible choice. The bulk of ads should focus on articulating what Romney wants to do and possibly restoring aspects of Romney's background as positives rather than negatives, which has already started to some extent with his record in Massachusetts in the "Believe in America" ad running. He needs to do more like that.

Lastly, he better give a superb acceptance speech and be in a position to exceed expectations in the debates.

Having a financial edge is one thing, but if it isn't spent right it is just Money for Nothing. Tongue

Both sides will have more than enough money to run the campaigns they want to run.

That's what you say when your side has less money. Obama  would not be going nuts fundraising if it didn't matter.

Yes I agree, it is pretty scary stuff.  It is money that matters in America.

Of course I would like for my candidate to have the most money but we really are getting to the point where it will be hard to spend any more money effectively in swing states. So a swing state voter sees 500 Romney ads and only 400 Obama ads before the election, BFD.

So, what will the Romney camp do with all this money ?

Based off past experience, my guess would be: use it to leverage the campaign into record levels of debt, pay themselves some obscenely large salaries, park a ton of of cash in off-shore tax shelters, and then walk away whistling with their hands in the pockets while the campaign crashes and burns behind them before declaring bankruptcy? Cheesy
