I love the photo of that article, it just screams blue collar America.

http://earlyreturns.sites.post-gazette.com/index.php/early-returns-20/53-post-gazette-staff/4636-gop-chair-roddey-obama-supporter-qretardedq

Allegheny County's GOP chair and former county executive Jim Roddey has long been known for being quotable, and he added to that reputation tonight in a joke equating Obama supporters with the mentally disabled.

...

"There was a disappointment tonight. I was very embarrassed. I was in this parking lot and there was a man looking for a space to park, and I found a space for him. And I felt badly -- he looked like he was sort of in distress. And I said, 'Sir, here's a place.' And he said, 'That's a handicapped space.' I said, 'Oh I'm so sorry, I saw that Obama sticker and I thought you were mentally retarded."

The crowd hollered and clapped, and then Roddey went into the the usual thanks at political events for grassroots supporters of the winning candidate.

Roddey has long been a vocal supporter of Mitt Romney, even before the GOP presidential field was settled, and has joined GOP voices supporting the state's strict new voter ID rules -- at a Romney event last month he joked he had re-done is will so he could be buried in Philadelphia and vote from the grave.

You apparently haven't seen some Obama supporters.

(And before someone tries to mention Romney supporters in response, just because dumb people support Romney doesn't make it any less true that a lot of Obama supporters are idiots.)

You apparently haven't seen some Obama supporters.

That does not mean that they are mentally retarded.

The point here is that this guy wasn't claiming that "some" Obama supporters are retarded, but that all Obama supporters (or at least the ones with bumper stickers) are retarded.

Ahhhhhh the Prince of Hackistan posts again.  The Republican Party of Allegheny County?  That's as relevant as you can find?  The Republican Party of Allegheny County probably consists of 10 people and is one of the more irrelevant political entities in PA.

It was a bad joke (although funny), but not worthy of a thread.  And certainly not worthy of a news article.

What the hell? Allegheny cast more Republican votes in 2008 than any other county, by far. 270K to 165k in Montco.

Not to mention that the current governor is from Allegheny County.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Seven Easy Rules for Reading Polls

1. Don't argue with the numbers because they're not telling you what you want to hear
2. Don't ascribe to bias or incompetence that which can be explained by random error
3. Don't use the phrase "statistical tie" unless the horse-race numbers are actually tied
4. Don't divide polls into "right" and "wrong" because the toplines differ
5. Don't assume that house effects are set in stone
6. Don't overreact to any single poll
7. Party ID is for amateurs

At least it was a joke, and not said in a mean-spirited way, though it's still very inappropriate.

The irony is a member of an anti-intellectual party calling someone 'retarded'.

The organized pub party is a mess.  Are there lots of pubs, sure.  But the GOP leadership is a joke in this county, and anything they  say isn't newsworthy.

That's almost as funny as that old quip from 2009:

"Congressman, don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining."
"Well, I wouldn't dignify you by peeing on your leg. It wouldn't be worth wasting the urine."

C'mon, George. The Republicans control a lot of legislative seats in the burbs there. Granted, they'll never win a county seat-wide seat anytime soon. The last one to do so I believe was...Jim Roddey (County Executive).

I supported him too. He's always struck me as a smart and thoughtful guy. Such a shame he'd stoop to such a juvenile attempt at a joke.
