They emphasized Independents very heavily. The sample was 30D 23R 40I; 2008 exit polls were 39D 33R 27I.

Still, the toplines seem to check out.

Yes, Virginia Republicans did very poorly in 2008. Since then they have decided to take the state back and have generally succeeded in doing so.
