For me I think New Orleans, believe it or not. Since it's culturally distinct from the rest of US it might get it. You?

Austin or New Orleans.  Voted Austin because I'm scared New Orleans isn't able.

The only thing that would help Austin is that it's going to be the cheapest Olympics the world has ever seen, most of the venues will be on the UT or Texas State campuses.

Zero chance it'll be New Orleans. Scheduling the Olympics in New Orleans during hurricane season?  It's not going to happen.

A May 15 - June 2 time frame would work to solve that problem.

Holding the Summer Olympics earlier than July messes up the schedules of too many sports federations.  It won't happen.

They managed to host the Olympics in Sydney in September 15 - October 1 because of the Southern Hemispheres seasonal differences, I think that would more of a hectic schedule than a May one.

Though I hear Tulsa, Oklahoma is putting in a bid for 2024.

That's a pretty big big big dark horse.

Any Texas city that isn't Houston would be fine by me.

Why? Houston has the venue advantage. My only issue with Houston IMO, is the public transportation.

I think it would be also interesting to see the Opening Ceremony of New Orleans.

I'd like to see New Orleans as the location of the summer Olympics -it will mark a real comeback for a city still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

I'm going to say this might also be a big boost for New Orleans in the bidding process if they ever go through it.

I actually was thinking 'Austin' ironically before I clicked into this thread.  how about somewhere in the desert, like Phoenix or Las Vegas.  would be mad funny to see the athletes in 115-120 degree heat.

They'll all die of exhaustion, perhaps we could rename the Olympics, the Hunger Games by that point?[/morbid humor]

Aly Raisman is going to be the no-brainer final torchbearer for that one.

To be honest I think I should've added Denver, for the Winter Games.

Time heals, maybe this time if they ever bid they'll get it.

The only other Winter Games option is Seattle Washington.

I heard the other day than Salt Lake City wanted them again.

The only reason why they got it is because of Mitt Romney. It won't happen again.

I think there is going to be a move towards holding the games in cities that already have the infrastructure in place (unless the games go to somewhere in the developing world) So I wouldn't rule out a Los Angeles bid again.

I doubt that will LA will host it again. It's probably going to be one of the cities I listed in this poll.

For the Winter Games, what about Pittsburgh or Buffalo?  With Pittsburgh, they can use the Appalachians for the Skiing events.

Just throwing out possibilities.

The Mountains in Pittsburgh aren't that high enough, and Buffalo has no Mountains. You need really high Mountains to host.

Looks like the only two possible candidates for a Winter Games are Seattle and Denver.

Ugh, none of these - Detroit only.

Oh I suppose New Orleans is depressed enough to need a boost.  Should be paid for entirely with fiat currency though.

Why Detroit? You want to see an opening ceremony about Chevy cars on Mount Rushmore?

mount rushmore is in south dakota

It's an American icon and tourist attraction, it has to be showcased the next time the US hosts. The Chevy cars however does make sense since it's Detroit.
