http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2012/08/flip-flop-or-evolution-paul-ryans-cuban-embargo-stance-could-be-a-sore-point-in-miami-dade.html

"The Wisconsin Congressman has voted at least three times in opposition to the embargo. A handful of current and former Republican Cuban-American lawmakers, who didn’t want to be identified for fear of bucking their own party, told The Miami Herald that Ryan’s record on the Cuban embargo might disappoint Cuban voters, who comprise 72 percent of the GOP electorate in Miami-Dade, Florida’s largest county."

I actually agree with Ryan 100% on this issue.

Yeah, this is one of his rare not insane positions. I doubt this will sway many Cubans to vote for Obama though.

He's right on the embargo, it serves no real purpose. Among Cuban voters that really are concerned about the embargo, it may be enough for them not to vote at all.

Elderly Cuban voters (the only ones who still care about it) will just have to shut up and swallow it. There is no way in hell that old Cubans are going to vote for Obama.

It is kind of hilarious though how Paul Ryan is basically the worst candidate for the state of Florida ever.

They can stay home or cast a blank ballot tho.

I'm with Ryan here. He produces a valid point.

So they'll just blindly vote Republican even if that means free trade with Cuba and "government will mess with their Medicare"?

Voters are not rational. This is the mistake we make everytime; stop assuming you can intelligently convince a section of the public to support something.

Ryan's actually (a shocker) right on this issue in my opinion, but old Cubans staying home isn't a good thing for the campaign he's been grafted on to. Not convinced the media will make a big deal out of this but some sort of whisper campaign in the Miami area might be in the offing.

A broken clock is right twice each day. What's so shocking?

I guess Ryan's congressional record, showing his trying to balance between his deontological worldview and interest-group politics, is tragic in that absurd way. Same is said of the Romney campaign really.

Lots of Midwestern members of Congress from both parties are anti-embargo for Cuba, because of the potential profits for farming states.  (Not to say that there isn't principle involved for some of them as well.)  However, standard operating procedure is that the VP candidate changes his positions to align with the guy at the top of the ticket.  So all that really matters here is Romney's position.

Even Jim Inhofe wants to repeal the embargo for the record.

This issue is so indisputably obvious that even Paul Ryan is correct on it.
