WASHINGTON -- He's been in Congress for nearly 13 years, but Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has only seen two of his bills pass into law during that time.

Ryan, who Mitt Romney has tapped as his running mate, passed a bill into law in July 2000 that renames a post office in his district. Thanks to Ryan, the post office on 1818 Milton Ave. in Janesville, Wis., is now known as "Les Aspin Post Office Building."

The other time Ryan saw one of his bills become law was in December 2008, with legislation to change the way arrows (as in bows and arrows) are hit with an excise tax. Specifically, his bill amended the Internal Revenue Code to impose a 39-cent tax per arrow shaft, instead of a 12.4 percent tax on the sales price. The bill also "includes points suitable for use with arrows in the 11 percent excise tax on arrow parts and accessories."

Kevin Seifert, Ryan's congressional spokesman, did not respond to a request for comment.

Yes but to be honest how many bills do most Representatives actually get passed anyway.

Funny thing is that Obama also sponsored two passed bills (not including co-sponsored ones, like Coburn-Obama Transparency Act of 2006) during his Senate term, but he was Senator for less than four years.

Ryan is one of the most influential thinkers in the GOP, and has written a handful of budgets.  I have a hard time seeing the "seat-warmer" accusation sticking.

Yes, because Paul Ryan is completely uninfluential and hasn't done anything major.

Well, that settles it.

Well, to be fair, he only recently (2011) became a Committee Chairman. From 2007 to 2011 Republicans were in minority and, before that, there were plenty more senior GOP Congressmen.

Still, despite being relatively young, he's far more experienced politician than Mitt Romney, which is truly ironic.

This definitely isn't the avenue to pursue.  Passing legislation isn't the only way to be an influential member of Congress.

This attack won't work. Granted, there have been 9,672 bills brought to the floor of the House (6,730 passed) since Rep. Ryan took office in 1999. So, 0.03%.

Working on the budget each year is far more important than passing minor works.

Does this include bills that passed the House but not the Senate?  If so, Ryan has sponsored quite a few of those, including at least two budgets.

Those numbers - at least I'm guessing - include all bills that the House passed, regardless of Senate action. Perhaps the 2 that passed are referring to bills that passed both chambers.
