"Romney and Ryan said nothing at all about national security, defense, terrorism or the war Saturday in Norfolk – despite having staged their event in front of a retired U.S. battleship.

I will say definitively- if Romney and Ryan ignore the issues of national security and don't start paying heed to the men and women in harm's way, I will cast my ballot for President Obama. Mr. Five DeferMITTs is showing his true colors and pretty boy Paul Ryan doesn't seem to have ever shown an interest in defense issues...

Enough is ENOUGH.... if Romney and Ryan want my vote and the votes of the millions of Americans  (not only veterans) who worry for the safety of our homeland, our people, and those fighting for all of us- they better earn it back

Clarence, Romney's Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense will be experts in foreign affairs. Romney/Ryan and their supporters are far more committed to the military and veterans than Obama/Biden and their supporters. I am absolutely 100% confident that if you polled a majority of Obama/Biden campaign workers/volunteers, you would find that the VAST majority of them are in favor of gutting defense spending. A sizable percentage of them could care less about veterans. These are the same people who wanted to immediately pull out of Iraq if John Kerry became president in 2005. It is incredibly difficult dealing with rank-and-file Democrats when it comes to the military. The vast majority of them have no appreciation of national defense, let alone the belief that must be the government's top priority at all times.

While Romney/Ryan are not veterans, they firmly believe that national defense is our nation's top priority. They realize that nothing matters if we do not have national security. It is only for political reasons that we are only talking about the economy right now (and Medicare to point out that it is Obamacare, not Ryan's plan, that shifts resources from seniors on Medicare to poor people). As you pointed out, the U.S.S. Wisconsin was our stage prop for unveiling Romney/Ryan. We will never cut defense under Romney/Ryan. The commitment to national security is firm and unquestionable. But for political reasons, and the fact that Bin Laden's death happened on Obama's watch (even though it would have happened all the same on McCain's watch or Romney's watch had one of them won in 2008), we must talk about the economy. It is safe to say that Gates and Petraeus will be voting Romney/Ryan even though they cannot say so publicly.

Stop lying. Democrats are way more concerned about veterans healthcare and finding them jobs after they come back from war. Republicans just send them into war, score political points of them and then forget about the veterans. Almost all the work programs for veterans were passed by or proposed by Democrats. And of course the socialized healthcare they receive is a Democratic idea as well.

LOL @ the notion of a Democratic jobs program creating jobs for anybody other than bureaucrats in Washington, DC.

Wow, great retort. This is why the forum holds you in the regard that they do.

For those veterans who don't have capital to start their businesses, getting a leg up in the job application process is much appreciated. If you think I am wrong, you can maybe visit some veterans groups offices and report back on how much these programs are hated. LOL.

And while you are at it, please also report back on their opinion of their socialized healthcare, which is provided to them in a much more efficient manner than the overall healthcare system.

The programs put in place decades ago have helped out veterans. Any recent Democratic program is largely a joke.

Our men and women of the military earned their healthcare, which is a very sustainable program. Properly maintaining it goes hand-in-hand with having a successful, strong military. Handing the same deal to welfare queens will diminish the quality of healthcare for veterans, and lead to devastating rationing and high taxes.

The Republican ticket isn't running on any real platform. Romney has no real insight into any issue or area, he's just spewing talking points and hoping they stick. He's the epitome of the used car salesman politician: trying to sneak into the White House without really being put to the tough questions that need answering. Mitt Romney is - so far - the most unvetted presidential candidate in US history.

Yeah, Black people don't deserve healthcare.

Yeah, Black people don't deserve healthcare.

Plenty of active/retired black men and women in the military who deserve the quality healthcare they get, so what are you talking about? Why even bring race into this discussion? The military is colorless, and the nation should be too. It never will be until Democrats stop pandering and baiting.
