I want to keep Biden, but let's assume that he has health problems and has to leave the ticket. Ideally it should be someone without 2016 ambitions; instead, I'd pick an elder statesman.

Ugh, not Bayh Tongue.

I'd go with Max Cleland, now that I think of it (though again, I love Biden too much to kick him off). Not only does he have a great background that helps Obama on foreign policy, but he helps create the narrative that the GOP is only concerned with winning (since Cleland faced a disgusting campaign against him in 2002).
