Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. I never imagined that an SRPG could be that hard.

Not sure, but it was an old Atari 2600-7800 game.

I'm genuinely not sure if this is sexual or not.

Im in my 30s, the snes was the first console i properly played. This game was right up there on difficulty. Even with codes like invincibility it was still hard to get to the end. I kept going back to settings to ensure i was on easy mode. I was in my early teens i think when this was out so i dont know how i would do if i was confronted with it in my late teens early twenties when i could crack almost anything.

I think all the star war games were pretty taxing. I was more of a zelda fan but the best thing about the snes were all the platform games. good times Smiley

Portal is pretty easy imo. Half life (the first one) is by far the hardest game I've ever played. Had to restart it twice after getting stuck at a checkpoint with too little ammo/health. Being only on PC made it much harder.

I don't play platform shoot em ups, ever, so my preferred gamee tend to be as hard as I want them to be. Conwuering half of Asia as a small Burmese kingdom in EU3 was pretty bloody hard.

That's what I've come in to say.  Maybe something off some of the other early consoles.  It's certainly not Portal.

Nintendo Hard: Bleh, it's hard to pick from all the stupid platformers of the 16-bit era.

For actually legitimately challenging, I'll have to say a largely forgotten squad-based strategy game called Tactics Ogre, which was first released only in Japan on the Japanese equivalent of the SNES and got a PSOne port. Think Final Fantasy Tactics except the story is better and makes more sense, and the battles involve much more characters and allow for more strategy. It's really time consuming and a huge commitment, 70 hours is probably the minimum time you'll have to play to beat it.

There was also a horror/adventure game for the PSOne called D that was also pretty hard but due to an annoying set up: You have exactly 2 hours to play it (no saving or even pausing) and if you fail to beat in that time you lose and have to start all over.

Amazon Trail: I got the impression that it was released incomplete and designed to be completely un-winnable so that the player wouldn't find out.

Ghosts and Goblins (or was it Ghouls?) for the NES.  Just stupid difficult.  Castlevania and Castlevania III for the NES are also up there.  Took me dozens and dozens of tries, hell maybe over 100, to kill Dracula in CVI.
