In 2008 there was a strong media narrative about McCain represented the old and outdated, and Obama representing progress. I don't see any narrative that stands out this time, and the effect of diversity in sources is stronger than its been before.  The media often favors Obama in the sense that it tends to follow the Democrats framing of which issues are important (ex. Romney's taxes, birth control, Akin), but on the other hand Romney hasn't put forward any themes of his own.

Obviously depends which source, but Democrats continuously since 1992. Before that, always the incumbent party until 1968 (in 1968 Nixon was favored). Before that, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower twice, and Dewey. Before that I don't know.

1948: Tom Dewey
1952: Dwight Eisenhower
1956: Dwight Eisenhower

1960: John Kennedy
1964: Lyndon Johnson

1968: Richard Nixon
1972: Richard Nixon
1976: Gerald Ford

1980: Jimmy Carter
1984: Ronald Reagan
1988: George Bush

1992: Bill Clinton
1996: Bill Clinton
2000: Al Gore
2004: John Kerry
2008: Barack Obama

2012 is still going on. Seems to me Obama, but it could still turn around. The closest calls are 1992 (I see the argument for Perot) and 2000 (I see the argument for Bush).

How on earth did the media ever favor Nixon or not favor Obama?

My list, starting with 1960:
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
(Both of these are pretty self-explanatory.)
1968: Humphrey (If you watch CBS's Election Night 1968 coverage on YouTube, you can hear cheers in the background when they called New York for Humphrey.)
1972: McGovern (An overwhelming majority of journalists voted for him over Nixon.)
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: Obama
2012: Obama
(Obviously for both 2008 and 2012.)

I don't get this question.  It seems pretty clear to me that it's been all Democrats since at least 1960.

Bush in 1984?  That was Reagan vs. Mondale.  And why did you color Dukakis blue when all the other Dems were red?
