You're about 75% of the US population. This is almost as silly as asking "Are you an out of the closet heterosexual?"

Bushie is just trying to balance the books, albeit in my opinion ineffectually. Maybe this is out of line, but I wonder what else Bushie is proud about concerning himself other than being a Christian at the moment. Maybe he can put that on his mega thread if he wants. I might add that I am no more "proud" of being  an atheist than I am of being a male - I just am. And I don't do closets.

I've never been 'in the closet.'

Scott's right; saying you're an "out of the closet Christian" suggests you were once a closeted Christian (who didn't express their faith openly for some reason?).

Kinda disappointed folks have discounted this thread so quickly. There are a lot of social circles where being Christian is frowned upon and certainly a minority. Go to Ryerson University in downtown Toronto and see how many people are Christians in any way beyond celebrating Christmas.

I have been experimenting with Buddhism, yes.

the time of heroes is dead, wiglaf - the christ god has killed it, leaving humankind with nothing but weeping martyrs, fear, and shame

That's still a far cry from being a widespread social stigma.

http://www.ryerson.ivcf.ca

As I said in the other thread, I described myself as "partially closeted" because I tend in social circles based on work or my scene to simply neither confirm or deny it. If I'm at a show and someone is making fun of Christians I'm usually just like "yeah yeah whatever", a place where people mosh is not the place to get in a theological debate.

I never said it was widespread. But if it happens to be concentrated in the area you live and in the circles you frequent, it can still foster a sense of unwelcomeness, which would amount to a lot of pressure and discomfort.

Even at a Canadian university, one of the few places were Christians might be a minority in North America, do you really think militant anti-Christians constitute any sort of majority?

That's kind of what you're like in theological debates, too Tongue

Can you just stop bashing Toronto? I'm sure Ryerson has a sizable Christian population, and I know U of T and York do. I've seen them with my own eyes.

While I don't know exactly how it is at certain places in Canada, I understand these sentiments. The overwhelming majority of my fellow students at university aren't practicing Christians and anti-Christian comments are quite frequent. Since I'm not a very confrontative person in real life I therefore don't tell everyone that I'm a practicing Christian. That's not the most courageous thing to do but due to this feeling of unwelcomeness you are talking about that's my standard reaction.
