Why Phoenix for the Dems?  Wouldn't the existence of the Arizona immigration law make such a choice controversial?

Demographic changes in Arizona (aka Latino voters) suggest that the state is about one Presidential cycle away from becoming truly competitive.

The decision for 2016 will have to be made as early as next year though, no?  As long as Jan Brewer is governor and the immigration law is in place, I would assume that any decision to hold the convention there would be controversial.

Which of the cities mentioned here even have convention centers suitable for a national party convention?  I mean, you might think, say, Columbus, OH would be a good place for a convention for political reasons, but do they have a convention center suitable for fitting 5000 people into one room, that'll look good on TV?  (They may well, I genuinely don't know the answer in that particular case.)

The cities that are actually considering a bid for 2016:

Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Nashville, Newark, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City

Would be amusing if Ohio hosted both parties in 2016: Dems in Cleveland and GOP in Columbus.

And add to the above Charlotte (for the GOP this time), Philadelphia, and St. Louis:
