Boehner's speech was delightfully and wonderfully snarky.

Ah yes. Santorum must have gripped many "hands". Many many thick and strong "hands". When you've seen as many hands as I have...

Though in all seriousness, this might have been the best speech I've heard all day.

The Revolution was in 59 and he left in 57?

Well, Batista was an asshole too. And hardly a right-winger.

Also, Artur Davis gave a very good speech.

About Santorum, I wish there was a way for him to be like Santorum...but less aggressive with his social issues. Obviously, I want him to keep those values he holds, but if only there was a way he could be...more restrained with them.

This is perhaps the most awkward primetime speech I have ever seen. But it does what it needs to do.

This is actually better than I expected. Then again, my expectations weren't that high because I suspected Romney convinced everyone in his campaign to give his wife a high-profile speech simply out of that whole love for her thing.

Out of the 7 conventions I've seen, this was so far the best, although the keynote was probably 3/7 for me (though it was very good). Anyways, they hammered the small business (build that) angle relentlessly and pretty well. It's a far better executed message than say...2008, which definitely fell on deaf ears.

To be quite fair, it's very unlikely you were the target audience of the convention. Or really most political rhetoric.

Artur Davis should have been our keynote speaker.

Condi was a fantastic, wonderful, great, Secretary of State. Especially because she had to simultaneously fend off the nuttier elements of the neocon movement.

Also, I'm really amused by how all of Martinez's brief lines in Spanish get huge amounts of applause (presumably mostly from people who do not understand Spanish).

I really dont like the 'our rights come from nature and god and not from government'....not only is it insulting to the non-religious, it is clearly not accurate. Our rights come from the constitution, the founding document of the government

Have you not heard of natural rights?

Also, "we will make the safety net safe again". Well thank God that someone finally says what this election is really about.

What an inspiring moment. Paul Ryan - your next Vice President!!!
He's running on the ticket again in 2016? Or is Biden leaving the administration and getting replaced with Ryan? That'd really be a bipartisan gesture on the part of the Prez.

If Romney loses, Ryan has an open field for 2016 if he so desires.

And it would take a miracle for the Dems to be competitive in 2016 if Obama wins another term. Eight years of misery will have been enough. It'll be 2008 in reverse.

People should re-listen to or re-read Obama's acceptance speech from 2008. He's criticized a lot for running on lofty but empty rhetoric, but that was a very specific and detailed explanation of the policies he would pursue as president and why he would pursue them.

Yeah, like closing Gitmo, and providing mortgage relief, and passing a healthcare plan that will cut premiums, and working across the aisle, and create 5 million new energy jobs, and cut the deficit, and lower poverty, and...

MSNBC is shameless; I don't know how these people live with themselves. FOX on its worst day doesn't even come close...
Really though, usually they'll try to show some fairness. But the last 2 days they've just ripped apart every speech. Matthews is the only one who even shows a shred of fair coverage. I wish Joe Scarborough or Michael Steele were doing the coverage.

http://www.examiner.com/article/racism-msnbc-cuts-convention-speeches-by-republican-minorities

...yeah. I used to kind of just equate MSNBC and Fox as being estranged twin versions of each other, but the RNC cover makes me doubt that now.

He made be nervous because people weren't scared of him. He seemed reasonable, and if he seemed like that to me, what did he seem like to indies? Then again, I'm more to the right of liberal Dems.

Dude, you're probably to the right of me (and I will never understand your party affiliation. Tongue)

I thought it was a good speech, but it didn't knock my socks off. I thought Christie's was much better (or more accurately - I thought it would have been a better speech if Christie was the actual nominee).

I'm kind of an enigma. I'm the kind of Democrat that could murder a Republicam in a General, but would have a hard time getting past the primary. I'm dead center, like I've previously repeated.

I actually disagree. Your abnormally strong performance among independents would probably be offset by weaker enthusiasm and turnout from the hard-left Democrats. It's why moderate Democrats often make slightly weaker (or at least not that much stronger) general election candidates than very leftist Democrats.

Do you guys all realize how asinine this debate is? Trying to claim random historical figures for your party just because they were connected with entities that became your party hundreds of years later after going through dozens of total revamps and changes is ridiculous.

We almost all clearly draw upon the legacy of Jefferson and Lincoln, regardless of our party.

Almost all of us, at least.

CNN is wowed over Ryan's speech.  They're stopping just short of game changer.  Even James Carville says the Democrats should be nervous.

Really? The Hillary hack who still clearly hates Obama's guts says that Democrats should be nervous? Shocker.

Seriously, I love Obama kool-aid groupthink. It's hilarious. When dissent becomes treason.

I wonder if that's how people started to believe pushing through Obamacare was a good idea.

"Blame America First crowd". Heh. Jean Kirkpatrick is smiling down from heaven.

Though I don't think this is actually a good speech.

Not amazing. It was okay, but usually Gingrich is a much better speaker. You know, it's what he uses to gloss over his 500 other horrible vulnerabilities.

You know, Latino and Hispanic aren't synonymous. But I guess there isn't a large Brazilian-American community to get annoyed...
