Well, if I could vote, I'd probably go for Wes Clark. The biggest issue at the time was the war, and  having a General would've probably been a politically smart move that would have won over some Republicans.

The biggest issue at the time was the war

I'm pretty sure the economy was the main issue, especially after Lehman Brothers' downfall, but even before.
