Seems like a classy fellow. Really? He's immediately referencing the Nazis. He had a perfectly legitimate argument (freedom of religion and such) and he squanders it. Merkel should just invoke Godwin's Law and move on.

It doesn't matter if someone torched me with a flamethrower as a child, a ciggarette lighter will never be a potent anti-infantry weapon.

The circumcision bans are stupid and ignorant and will rightfully fail. No serious national entity supports it. But immediately inappropriately resorting to Nazi imagery is not helpful to the discourse or to policy, regardless of ones personal history.

Yes, he's led a hard life, but it isn't really comparable unless they start rounding people up for practicing circumcision. I think it's certainly a violation of religious freedom, but if you're going to immediately start shouting about how this is just like Hitler, then it kinda discredits your argument and makes you seem kind of a loon, meaning that your (legitimate) concerns about this ruling aren't taken seriously. It's self-defeating, is what it is, and that's disappointing because it weakens the stance of people who actually want this ruling repealed and gone and circumcision kept legal.

no it shows their hypocrisy this was his quote
"This is astonishing that the German speakers of Europe in our generation are concerned with the cries of the infants. I did not merit this as a child as tens of millions of Germans either cooperated with the Gestapo or remained silent. "

your not entitled to an opinion on weather this is appropriate or not He is.

read this story and you may begin to understand why most Jews agree with every word he said.

The Bluzhever Rebbe was a survivor of the Holocaust who had suffered in the camps throughout the war. During one particular brutal assignment of chopping wood, he overheard the Nazi's instructing all infants, children and mothers to line up. The Rebbe understood very well that this meant that they were next to be killed. Amidst the cries and moans of the mothers, the Rebbe heard a mother cry out, "A knife, a knife. I need a knife." The Rebbe thinking that it was a distraught woman who wanted to take her life, quickly ran over and tried calming her down. An S.S. officer who witnessed the scene, came over and hit the Rebbe over the head with his gun, knocking him down to the ground. Smiling, the officer proudly presented the woman with a knife. The Rebbe still in a daze, looked away, so as not to see what the lady was about to do. Surprisingly, he began to hear the lady talking in a very calm and controlled voice. He turned around and saw the lady place her infant on the ground, unbutton his clothing, and proclaim, "Hashem, you granted me this beautiful baby. Today, he is eight days old. I know that he will be returned to You very shortly. Let me at least return him to You as a Jew with a Bris." She then recited the blessing and circumcised her son, before the stunned Nazi.

Why not? Your story illustrates that the Nazis were cruel and that circumcision is very important to the culture, but it's really inappropriate to just immediately revert to Nazi references instead of discussing, I don't know, the cultural significance of this?

let me put it this way if Germany forbid emigration and also ban circumcision under the penalty of death.  Many Jews will choose the later.

this is NAZI like.

a country that murder over 1,000,000 Jewish children has no business ever telling loving Jewish parents anything except eternal apologies.

Godwin's law aside... a bill to legalize religious circumcision is already in the making and will probably pass the Bundestag with huge majorities (read: every political party except for the Left Party).

So the only people who have legitimate reasons to complain are the ones who are actually in favour of a ban of circumcision. Because that's not gonna happen.

1. Find a policy that Germans don't actually support.
2. Then create a completely different policy that is Nazi-like.
3. Calling them Nazis, it's as easy as ABC!

And this is really a twisted view of history. Holocaust reparations are already paid for. In another generation when everyone alive during the Holocaust is dead, the idea of an "eternal apology" to be hoisted onto unconnected descendents will rightfully be deemed asinine.

You'll get what you want the day the right-thinking people ostracize the Jews for not apologizing for the Caananites. (aka never)

Begin was right "repartition" should never have been excepted because the crime can never be payed back.

“It would have been an immeasurable humiliation of the Jewish people if no one had arisen from among us to express opposition to that agreement, which as we warned, became an agreement of rehabilitation and appeasement of the German people, the very nation that murdered six million Jews. If I contributed to this opposition, from then to this day, I am proud of that.”

Oh well. It was still accepted. And even if you view yourself as part of an eternal ethnic community that can act and err as one, the vast majority of people on Earth do not. Collective guilt is inconceivable in the modern world.

Jews do not have a monopoly on the holocaust. They were the main target, but not the only target. The man’s comment was not at all inappropriate. Is it annoying that people immediately reference the greatest evil in human history? I think so. But was it inappropriate? No, not that much. It would have been if any non Jewish holocaust victim said it, of course, due to political correctness.

Unless it's absolutely necessary, nobody has the right to slice up a child's penis before they have any capability to give consent.

I generally despise Nazi analogies of any stripe, when Rabbis are being arrested in Germany for performing basic Jewish rites, it's hard to make the case that it's inappropriate.

That being said, this is not German law. This is the action of an evil rogue court that has been condemned by the Chancellor of Germany and will be overruled by their legislature in short order. It's important to remember that in the overall picture, Germany and the Jewish people are on the same side here.

Godwin's law just means that the longer an internet 'discussion' continues, the more likely it is that someone will compare someone to the Nazis. It doesn't seem to have much to do with mentioning the Nazis in the context of an attempt to ban circumcision in Germany. Besides, the odd thing to do in that context is to not to make at least a vague reference to Nazism.

Not that another thread on circumcision is such a great idea, mind.

An attempt by unqualified individuals, some of them abusing office, others acting in a private capacity.
It's really quite the incredible story, and of course it will be put right and very probably would even if it didn't involve Jews as well.

But Rabbis have not been allowed to perform the rite for years, only licensed medical practitioners - in jurisprudence of Anti-Islamic tendency, of course - and didn't ever usually perform it anyways - Mohels do.

A connection that is merely cirumstancial (pun intended Tongue ), since a local judge in France, Netherlands or some other country could have "banned" circumcision just as easily in an effort to "stick it to the Muzlims".

And if I were to make a prediction, it won't be the last time that Jews end up as collateral damage of Islamophobia in Europe.

Oh, sure, sure, sure. I know all that. It's just that, you know, given all of that everyone's brain is going to go there. Which means that not mentioning it is the active decision.

This.

I have a "sliced" penis because of a condition I had as a child, and now I know that this condition could have been cured without resorting to slicing it. Well I'm pretty pissed cause the sex's not so great you know...

That story is obviously apocryphal.

Most Jews don't agree.  You're just projecting your opinion onto millions of other Jews; stop it.
