These stories tend to be base-rousers. It's the equivalent of Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers. Except for the other side. It don't see it being a game-changer.

It's quite strange. There's this paranoid style in American politics. Leftists who think that as soon as they discover some conspiracy about Bain raping women and eating the poor, the evil hook-nosed banker Romney will be booted from the public sphere. And rightists who think as soon as they discover proof of Obama's Kenyan Socialist Muslim plan to destroy America, he'll be booted out. And Libertarians who talk about the New World Order, Bildenberg Group, and what not.

I don't get it.

Dude this is not a breaking news story. It's no where to be found but in the blog section in politico and the backwoods of the ticker on CNN. Just like yesterday when the Ryan marathon time was a campaign ender or the day before when the 211 call was a deal breaker. As much as you guys would like these to be movers for the public the are not. There seems to be a high correlation between these type of "disqualifying or game changing" threads and Romney's improved standing in the polls.

Dems desperate to keep Romney out at any cost are coming out with 12 false or misleading stories each day attacking Romney.

I can see why the Desperate Dems want to avoid discussing the economy at all costs.

Directive sent out from the Obama War Room:

Discuss anything but the economy.  Do not discuss the economy.  Find anything you can to distract the publics attention away from the economy.  We do not care if it is the truth, a partial truth, or an out and out lie, as in the Harry Reid attack on Romney.  We all know President Obama has done a terrible job with the economy so we do not want anyone in the President's reelection organization discussing the economy.

A NY Democratic State Attorney investigation is, by definition politically motivated, as he is trying to make a name for himself for a future run at Governor.

I certainly expect the media to hype it up and Obama folks to run ads about it.

Yes, because two people who do something obviously means that everyone's doing it.

No.  I disagree.  I am the "base" and this story is neither surprising nor does it influence my impression of Romney.  As I said before this is what people in private equity do.  Sure it varies from firm to firm but private equity is not about building domestic US factories staffed by good paying union jobs with robust benefits.  It's about using every trick in the book to make a buck.  It is what it is.

Seriously the whole country knows Romney has a $100 million IRA.  Even private equity guys have come out and said they have NEVER seen anything like that.  Why would anyone be shocked the firm Romney headed up was open minded about aggressive tax sheltering strategies?  This guy is an aggressive guy in an aggressive business.  It's not like we are saying he is a racist and terrorist.

But that's the point. It doesn't change minds. It just reinforces the opinions of people who already hold those opinions. So it's hardly a game-changer.

And all these Bainer investigations will probably lead to the same conclusion of all those Birther investigations.
