Oh God.

That several forum members, who generally considered at least somewhat sound and articulate, can, honestly and without joke, claim that they would vote for an openly racist man who defended segregation, because of whatever his other stances might be, is completely sickening.

And you propose as your alternative this guy?

I'd rather have a racist than a man who tried to sabotage peace talks for political gain.

More than likely not, but I'm not a black living in Alabama.

Yeah, I imagined.

And as such I prioritize ending the war over ending segregation. What is so wrong with being anti-war?

I'm confused. Didn't his running mate advocate bombing Vietnam into the Stone Age?

If the Vietnam War was not winnable within 90 days of his taking office, Wallace pledged an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops. As his aides told Pete Hamill about Vietnam, “The hell with it.”

Wallace also called foreign-aid money “poured down a rat hole” and demanded that European and Asian allies pay more for their defense. The relative prudence of the Alabama governor’s foreign policy was obscured by his disastrous selection of Gen. Curtis “bomb them back into the Stone Age” LeMay as his running mate.

Okay. Glad to see I wouldn't be the only McCarthy/Wallace crossvoter.

Sorry, am I missing something? Did George Wallace call for bombing black neighborhoods with napalm and Agent Orange?

McCarthy at the beginning.  RFK when he jumped in.  After he was assassinated, I would've grudgingly gone back to McCarthy, until McGovern entered at the last minute.  Would've been for him then.

I love Humphrey, but all the way with LBJ!!!! my favorite Prez

With the war in Vietnam raging and beginning to look like a quagmire, unrest in America's urban centers due to riots for both peace and civil rights, inflation rising, and what seems is an America that is tearing itself a part, you, a voter in the Democratic primaries (or at the Democratic National Convention) must decide who you choose to lead this country for four more years. You have five days to decide.

Can't believe I forgot to lock this. The poll's over. The results were and RFK win. RFK won a >60% land-slide against George Wallace and Nelson Rockefeller.
