I think I may be his biggest fan. I just love his posts. They are thoughtful, original, and superbly written. The guy missed his calling as a professional writer. He's just that good.

Anyone who doesn't like angus is a communist.

Well in my case that is true.  (Actually I quite like him, but I consider him one of the worst types of Americans, both politically and personally, and thus had to vote HP.  Anyway I vote HP for all Rs).

Haven't seen much of him in a while and sad that he got rid of his R-IA avatar (even if he was a liberal Republican), but my memories of his posts are almost all positive. Great guy, FF.

FF, if somewhat sartorially misguided, but even in that regards he is still an FF- fights for the suited man, you see.

sad that he got rid of his R-IA avatar

I guess I changed that in mid-July.  The fact is, I am no longer a registered Iowa Republican.  I am an unaffiliated registered voter in Pennsylvania.  The big blue Iowa shield was iconic, though, and I had it longer than any other since I started posting here.  Over four years, I think.

You can still think of me as a Liberal Republican if you want.  Smiley

It would not be easy, but If you get the spikes pushed into both palms first, lean back against the board, get the feet firmly affixed, then do the left hand, holding the hammer in the right hand, it might be possible, after dropping the hammer, to bring your right hand around to get some momentum and then, with good aim, swing it backward just right so that the spike, already firmly embedded in the flesh, pierces the wood sufficiently to gain the purchase necessary to support the body's weight.

The key is getting the spikes initially well set, in between the third and fourth carpals, with minimal damage to the nerves or muscle tissue, so you can still swing the hammer.  Of course one must also work fairly quickly, because the loss of blood and constant pain will zap the strength.

Of course we're peaking metaphorically--your using crucify as a synonym for defamation and my quick and methodical setting of the hand spikes being a metaphor for posting early and succinctly in the thread, etc.--but as long as we're on the topic of suicide by crucifixion, check this out.  It's a little off topic, but hey, it's a thread about angus, so anything strange is fair game.

I am impressed angus that you have given so much thought to the technical mechanics of effecting a crucifixion. Is it just due to this thread or your kids going to Sunday school or merely the eclectic nature of your mind that precipitated your transfixion with crucifixion?

Well, the Great Adventure lasted about 3 weeks.  Jesus Christ, Superstar is apparently what he learned.  There was a drawing of a stick figure guy with long hair climbing a burning building.  I think I mentioned that.  I asked what he drew at the Great Adventure and he said it was Jesus.  Jesus was capable of "saving" people, you see, and I guess in the boy's mind "saving" people was something like being big enough to climb the outside of a burning building and reach in there and fetch them out.  One day I suppose he'll watch King Kong and think of Jesus.  And he'll wonder why the helicopters are shooting at him for saving Faye Ray.

Anyway, I guess I never much though about crucifixion till I read the post that you can't do it to yourself.  I figured on being a smart-alek about it, then after I typed all that it occurred to me to Google "suicide by crucifixion."  I really didn't think it'd turn anything up.  The internet is great, ain't it?
