By the time the improvement in living standards of the British working class began to be confirmed, the entire theory was discredited. IMHO, the only thing the crisis has proven is that investment banking should probably be separated from commercial banking again. Oh, and pseudo-government agencies are doing nobody any good by facilitating the lending of hundreds of thousands of dollars to individuals who work at places like 7/11 (there is dignity in all work, but that does not mean we can all afford to repay $500,000 mortgages).
