Final tally:  60 votes for, 38 against with all 38 No votes from Dems
I show 60 yea, 36 nay and 4 nonvotes.

6 Dems voted yea: Landrieu (D-LA) Lieberman (D-CT) Nelson (D-FL) Nelson (D-NE) Pryor (D-AR) Salazar (D-CO) and 1 Rep didn't vote.

I was surprised by nays from Clinton and Bingaman.  I'm happy Salazar came through, though.

Bingaman is actually way more liberal than he lets on during his re-election campaigns. However, as long as the NM Reps continue to be disorganized and internally riven, he'll keep winning.

I say 58-59 votes,  7 or 8 Dems will vote for him, Chafee, Specter, Collins & possibly Snowe will vote against him

Not one Republican voted Nay.  So much for the RINO theory.

I think Chaffee got sick of being Senator, and wants to make sure to lose.

I hate to say it, but Democrats seem to have lost their mind.

1)  challenging Ohio electors in the Congress

2)  ripping an African - American woman secretary of state nominee

3)  voting in mass against the first Hispanic atorney general

4)  Kennedy's rant THREE says before the iraq election

5) Howard Dean as party chair?

Look, I have problems with Bush policies in every area, but this is lousy strategy, and for what?  Alienate a portion of our base minorities?  Make Howard Dean the face of the party?  Acting like sore losers with Ohio when we lost the state by 100,000 plus?

We are playing right into Bush's hands.  I'd like to win another election, but we are cutting our own throat.  You have to use a little common sense at some point.  Suicide is not my first choice of strategy.

Speak out against Bush.  Sure, put forth our own ideas and be critical.  However, how about we choose our battles a little more carefully.

Boxer and Kennedy being the public face of the party of the Democratic party is my personal dream come true.  I also think what Bayh is doing is fantastic: instead of leading the now-voiceless moderate wing of the party, he is sucking up to the left.

He's just attorney general. Not a legislator.

You ignore what administration backing can do. Fortunately, Coburn said he won't elt any gun controll pass(and oen guy can halt legislationin the senate pretty easily.

just because someone is a minority does mean they deserve our automatic approval. Rice and Gonzalez are both worthless pieces of sh**t.

Now, lumping someone together with Torturemaster Gonzalez is an actionable insult.
I should challenge you to a duel to defend Miss Rice's honour. Smiley

This link is interesting because it reveals something I did not know - that Kent Conrad's first name is actually 'Gaylord'!  That is so cool.  However I'm surprised the Republicans haven't used it against him.

Anyway as regards the Gonzales vote, very disappointing that those Democrats voted for him, and also Specter, Chaffee, Collins, and Snowe.  jfern is right, it is time for RI voters to realize Chaffee backs the Bush/Religious Right agenda.

Pryor, Salazar, Lieberman, Bill Nelson, Landrieu, Ben Nelson. Dan Inouye, Max Baucus and Kent Conrad all did not vote, and so did Rep Conrad Burns
