In the 1990s, New York's governor was Mario Cuomo. In the 1990s, Sao Paulo's governor was Mario Covas. Two eponymous states home to their country's largest cities. Huh. They even look kind of similar:

Mario Covas

They did not serve concurrently, however, Covas' term began shortly after Cuomo's ended.
