A few things I should note about Vermont (at least recently):

34% Non-religious
26% Roman Catholic
29% Protestant

Compare that to 1990:

13% Non-religious
37% Roman Catholic
47% Protestant

Non-religious ID has exploded in Vermont.

More has changed here besides parties.
