Ridiculous moderating policies - Part 457
«

So Inks doesn't like that there was a bit of an argument in The Comedy Institute. In reality, he didn't like that it was a success. He locked it. I complained in the Forum Community. His response? "Oh, well, it lasted a lot longer than others. Stop whining and start a new one." So, basically admitting that he's forcing his personal views about The Institute on the rest of us. He doesn't like it? Poof. Gone.
Dave, please intervene and put Inks in his place.

It's time for Inks to resign. His position has become untenable and he no longer enjoys the support of the forum.

I will seriously push for this if The Institute isn't unlocked. He essentially admitted that he locked it because it "went on long enough" and
he personally
didn't find it necessary anymore. Ridiculous.

At the point that I have to delete over a page worth of arguments, it's time to start a new thread. What's the big deal if you have to start a thread?

The Institute is legendary. See, you're making this about your personal opinions. Because
you
don't care about it and find no big deal in creating a new one, then we should just create a new one! Well, I don't take orders from you.
Inks said via private message that I must "learn to be civil" and my threads
may
- may! - not be deleted in the future. This kid has gone too far. I'm seriously asking Dave to remove Inks as a moderator.

The thread's been unlocked. I simply locked it because in the past, when a goldmine has to have a page of argumentative crap deleted from it, it's usually time for a new goldmine.
I don't really care if it's locked or not - I just did it following tradition.
I didn't even think people would care, not even Phil.

When Sam Spade tried to resign as a mod, it took Dave about a year to act on it. And that was *before* Dave started ignoring us. How exactly could anyone resign as a mod now?

Well, it's a definitional thing then. If a mod still has mod powers, but doesn't use them, is he still a mod? In any case, I just wanted to point out how detached from reality some of the discussion about this is. In the Forum Community thread, Phil said something like "Enjoy your last hours as a mod", as if Dave is ever going to act on a request to de-mod someone, let alone in the next few hours.

Abusing moderator privileges is not a bannable offense.

Sure, but who is seriously proposing banning Inks over this? Even if someone did suggest that, what do you think is the probability that Nym will decide to go along with it? 0.0000001%? This talk of canning Inks as a mod is pure fantasy-land.
To summarize:
-The only person who can de-mod Inks is Dave.
-Dave never responds to requests for moderator changes anymore, not even requests directly from Nym, his hand-picked modadmin.
-Even when Dave was responding to requests for mod changes, he generally wasn't making such substitutions without some kind of consensus from the existing mods, or at least a request from Nym, who was speaking for the consensus opinion of the mods.
-Regarding that consensus....not a single mod so far (either here in public or on the moderator board) has spoken out in favor of de-modding Inks over this.
-Knowing Nym, it's pretty obvious that he's not going to support any punitive action against Inks for locking that thread, and at worst would support infraction points over posting the PM.

Nym could ban Inks, then allow him to create a new account, then merge the two accounts. or delete the Inks account and allow him a new account.

nobody has even been banned for it before, but that does not mean it isn't a bannable offense. a "case of first impression" as they say around these parts.

Nym can't merge or Delete accounts. Plus, Dave doesn't delete accounts.

There was an incident a few years back where MasterJedi was deleting posts critical of him, that even other mods attacked him over. He wasn't banned or de-modded for it, though of course he also lapsed into inactivity anyway. Of course he also admitted fault and effectively ceased modding even if he didn't go inactive immediately too...
