I haven't had confidence in him in ages but locking The Institute is insane. This is the last straw.

He might have evicted you from the building, but there's nothing to say that you can't re-open your Institute elsewhere.

It's the principle of the matter. I shouldn't have to create a new one based on his personal opinion that it has run its course. It's another case of "I'm Inks. I'm the boss. Deal with it."

The moderator in question is neither Right, nor Honorable, nor made of Ink.

No confidence for unrelated reasons.

It should be noted that a majority of Atlas forumites believe that a bucket of turnips would be a better moderator than Inks.

Well, I am fairly sure that I am Inks, so I guess that would make me confident.

Then again, sometimes when I look in the mirror, I think I'm ugly.

Hmm... tough choice.

Shutting down the Institute is bad, period.

To be fair, that's because we don't like the idea of moderation (beyond the bare necessary minimum or when it suits us)... so a bucket of turnips would make a highly competent moderator most of the time.

Considering our population growth in the past decade, and the lack of interest in our affairs displayed by the higher power, I say it's time for the Atlas Forum to be granted responsible government.

My brothers,

After the most recent inappropriate act by Moderator Inks, we have scored yet another victory...

As of now, I recuse myself from any moderation duties for the next 7 days, or until such a time that Dave and/or Nym makes a comment on the incident, whichever comes sooner.

Final victory isn't far off.

Again, I'd really hate to be a party pooper, but the chances that Dave is the one who removes Inks from his position is slim to none at best.

I am not resigning.  I fully plan on holding my post as moderator.  I just feel that at this time, it would be inappropriate for me to moderate while a potentially valid complaint has been filed.

No, no. He's done this time. Posting a private message as a moderator? Not letting that one stand.

I like Inks as a person, and I believe 90% of the people who want to replace him would do a worse job. He's far from perfect, but he isn't as awful as most moderators on the net, and isn't the worst on this site.

I have confidence in his abilities, and I'm sure that nobody who has called for his removal here would be better in what is a tough board to moderate well and evenly - actually think how much time you'd have to devote to the task, and how much worse it would be to have someone who ignored the rules completely. I push a lot of boundaries on here, but I have never been infracted, because at the end of the day, I can talk about penis-shaped cans of deodorant, I can say 'crud', and I can suggest someone's an idiot without breaking what are pretty simple rules that are consistently upheld by the moderating team. You might not like Inks, and you might disagree with my views about his consistency, but It'd be hard to convince me most of you would be better.

--------

I'd also like to make it clear that I like Phil, and whilst in the distant past we had many fights, I believe him to be an honourable and good guy, but the one characteristic of Phil that I remember from then as a mixed blessing, his tenacity, should be moderated.

Wait, not moderated.

Oh, you know what I mean. Wink

And I got infracted for proposing that both Inks and Phil be banned, a rather poor reason given how they acted.

(then again, I did also insult both of them at once using vulgar language)

If we're going to have Moderators, they should be elected (probably to two year terms or something like that) . Of course, I'd rather we didn't have them at all.

Confidence.

Inks strongly represents a Lawful Neutral alignment, to use the traditional DnD morality alignments. His moderation actions consistently demonstrate his desire to do exactly what he thinks an impartial moderator should do, in observing the existing forum rules and cautiously relying on consensus and/or his understanding of past precedent to fill in the gaps where the rules aren't exactly black-and-white.

Getting rid of Inks won't improve anything, guys; he does the best he can with what he's got to work with. If you want to fix things, you don't need to remove a competent moderator- just get rid of this broken system.

And pray tell how could we do that?  As far as I can tell we have no power to do anything, and in fact even our complaints about it are only tolerated by authority's whim.
