I had thought the redistricting had made the Maine CD's less polarized, but it appears I was wrong about that.

Anybody who thinks the Democratic party has become the party of elites need only look at Maine. Outside of resort towns, most Mainers are independent, blue collar folks, yet these days they overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Maine used to be pretty strongly Republican and even in 2000 it was a target of the Bush campaign. There's been an interesting realignment there that doesn't necessarily echo the perceptions of both political parties.
