If she keeps splitting the Democratic vote in the Maine Senate Election, she'll undercut King and let the GOP take the seat and the majority. Any chance the party will ask her to drop out? I'd hate to see another Crist vs Rubio vs Meek.

This is one poll which could well be an outlier since all the local polls have King up 20+. Plus the national Dems don't want to let slip the open secret (to everyone except Cynthia Dill) that King is an I/D until post-election.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm praying for another black-yellow majority, and for the SPD to get shattered. It's exactly what it deserves.

If not, their children will. Conservatives defend the past and fight for the few. They are the virus that prevents progress.

Is it even possible for Democrats to just not run a candidate?

Since most of the recent polling movement has been from King to Dill, it may indicate that with Obama looking likely to retain the White House and the Dems the Senate that some Democrats who were tactically supporting King to prevent a Republican Senate no longer feel the need for a tactical vote.

Is this the only statewide election in Maine this year?

Yes. The Governor is elected in the off-Presidential cycle as most States do these days and Governor is the only statewide office in Maine, with not even a Lieutenant Governor. Maine is one of six sane States that does not waste money on such a useless creature.

One reason Dill won't drop out is that King, while endorsing Obama, has been coy as to which party he will caucus with.

King Angus is a self-important egomaniac. As long as Democrats can win an outright majority in the Senate, they will probably be better off without his melodrama.
