The Virginia Public Access Project has launched precinct-level maps of statewide elections in Virginia. They have all the statewide races from 2004 to 2009. The interface is a little clunky (you have to click on each individual county to see the results), though.

Yes great job by VPAP which also is one of the best sites reporting state and local campaign contributions.  I suggested precinct maps to them a year ago and I guess they must have listened to me and others.

I hope there is some way to get this into a statewide shapefile which I would be willing to work on. This would allow mapping which would show the demographics of the precincts, and the trends over the years. Also, it would be a good way to get ready for redistricting. Google maps is OK but Arcview I still thinks works  best for preparing detailed precinct maps.

I wonder what source they used for the precinct boundaries which are very hard to find for recent elections except in major counties. This is the first time we can see the latest precinct boundaries since the 2000 census for VA.

Does anyone here know when the Census Bureau will be releasing the new precinct or vtd shapefiles for the 2010 Census and where you can access this information ?

This is great. Thank you. Someone should e-mail Dave Bradlee (who created Dave's Redistring App) and show him all this data. That way, we can finally have partisan data for Virginia.

Nice - anyone have luck finding a shapefile?  I've added the data to the site, but would like to make a map like WA or NC by precinct state-wide.

Enjoy,
Dave

Hi, guys. I know a few of you have been interested in getting a statewide map of how Virginia's precincts voted in 2008. I managed to create this map, but unfortunately I have not posted 20 posts on this forum to enable links. If anyone with links enabled would like to post the link, I can send you the image link in a message or email.

Just post the address. It won't be hyperlinked, but we know how to copy-and-paste.
