Based on the facts below would you vote for this guy or even consider voting for him?

*Anti-gun control (endorsed by the NRA 8 times as Governor)
*Supports the use of the Death Penalty.
*Pro-choice
*Favors more spending on the military.
*Inherited a $60 million budget deficit.
*He balanced the budget every single year that he was governor.
*His health-care program provided universal health-care for all children and cut the percentage of uninsured citizens by three percent.
*He cut taxes twice.

Depends on who he is. Is he a historical figure or an American politician?

probably Dean.  My vote for/against Dean would be who he's running against.

Of course I would vote for this guy.. and I do think it is Dean.  But I strongly disagree with the increase in military spending and am rather ambivalent about the death penalty.

So obviously Dean.
I'd like to hear more about that balanced budget - how was that achieved?
Also, I don't like the Death Penalty part AT ALL - but this being America, you have to take what you get.

Well, the first two points dont reflect my views. If he maintains a balanced budget military spending is okay, only when it goes Reagan does it really become a problem. I'm especially drawn to his health care achievements but who did he cut taxes for?

I would have to see more of his economic policies before I would consider voting for him.

I don't he spent much money on the military as a Governor, so I don't feel the comparison is altogether fair. Smiley

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you're saying. But since you're not really governor, I guess it's okay.

He maintained a balanced budget when he was governor (of a small state), he supported increases in "defense" spending made at the federal level. He didn't actually have to worry about how to finance that arms spending, thus we don't know if, as President, he would maintain a balanced budget or spend more on the military or do both but cut a lot of other stuff.
That was my point, and it's only a rather minor one. Smiley (And I forgot a word in my original post, too...)

The anti-gun control thing tipped me.  I don't know many pro-gun, pro-choice politicans.

I voted Yes, but Howard Dean is not my ideal candidate since I'm a 'hawk'. He'd be painted as a New England liberal and be toast, regardless of his moderate stance on many issues

He had his chance in 2004 - but should he become DNC Chair I think he'll work very hard at it

Yes, this stuff isn't supposed to matter, but I find Dean very uncharismatic.

I knew who it was almost from the start, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise. Probably the only reason so many people voted against him is that they also guessed who it was.
