I think it's pretty foolish for a Kurd to try to live in Kirkuk during the Saddam Hussein era.  Also pretty foolish for Muslims to live in majority Serb areas of the Balkans during the 90s, or for Sunnis to live in Alawite areas of Syria.  Why do people torture themselves like that, rather than just relocate to places where there'll be accepted?

You know, I lose a lot of sympathy for the plights of gay people when they try comparing their struggles to genocide, segregation and slavery. I can only imagine how counterproductive such rhetoric is for their cause, especially in the aforementioned areas of America.

In case anybody has missed it, Politico is currently suggesting that people who are made to feel unwelcome in a particular community are better off leaving than sticking around and putting up with the abuse.

Interesting.

I worded it poorly. You got the gist of what I was saying, though.

You know, I've never actually seen one of Politico's leftist posts.

That is because I have never been a leftist. In fact, I have never been a leftist on any issue except for a temporary swing to the extreme left on the environment in 2006, after seeing Al Gore's documentary (I have since moved back to the center/center-right on the environment).

I am a lifelong Democrat from a staunchly Democratic family, but I have always belonged to the center-right wing of the party (e.g., a Clinton/Gore New Democrat from the 1990s, not that revisionist crap that supporters of Bill Clinton push today; the type who would never back Mondale over Hart, Dukakis over Gore, etc.).

Funny, that exception also includes - in your mind, anyway - gay people.

Last time I checked I don't have a 'self destruct' button. Unless they count that little spot below my ear...

I was speaking only about myself, of course.
