So I've decided to make a collaborative thread in the Simfan style. Everyone else named is also involved.

DNC 2016: Following a hard-fought primary with Senators Klobuchar and Gillibrand to replace incumbent President Obama, Gov. SJoyce (D-NH) accepted the Democratic nomination for President at the DNC in St. Louis, MO, with SJoyce criticizing the two Senators as too liberal to win and they criticizing SJoyce of too much pandering to right-wing libertarianism. At the convention, he made the surprising selection of Gov. Nix (I-NY) as his vice presidential candidate. The campaign against Gov. Christie (R-NJ) and his running mate Gov. McDonnell (R-VA) is strenuous and at times vicious, but their relatively moderate (fiscally sensible and socially tolerant are the buzzwords) eventually leads to a victory.

Gov. SJoyce/Gov. Nix: 318
Gov. Christie/Gov. McDonnell: 220

SJoyce and Nix don't look to be having an easy time of governing, however. While they won the Presidency, Republicans held on in the Senate and (due to the retirement of Majority Leader Grassley) select their new majority leader, Senator Sanchez (R-FL). The Republicans also maintain their hold on the House of Representatives, and select as their Speaker the man who delivered them one of Maine's electoral votes, Rep. 20RP12 (R-Bangor).

And this is where we begin.

Action 1: A bill has been introduced in the House (Primary Sponsors: Rep. Butterfield (D-NC) and Rep. Thompson (D-CA)) and the Senate (Primary Sponsors: Sen. Tester (D-MT) and Sen. Heinrich (D-NM)). It is believed that Reps. Jones and Amash and Sens. Flake and Lee are likely to sign on in the coming future. This bill is supported by the administration. What is the action of the Speaker and Majority Leader?

What is the bill? Perhaps we can discuss it over a round of golf and a service at an all black church in downtown Atlanta?

I poorly phrased it; I'll say that the PATRIOT Act is up for extension and I'm gathering people to commit to voting it down.

Yeah if it's voting against the PATRIOT Act, I'm on your side.

Excellent! On to the next idea, which is a fundamental reorientation of our armed forces. Time to read the quadrennial defense review report.

Shouldn't this go over in the Interactive Timelines sub-forum?

We have one of those? It was really just an idea stolen from Simfanland.

I think I'm gonna hawk in this scenario

CNN News: House Speaker Carl Schulz (R-ME) introduces a resolution giving the President power to use force against Iran in the event that Israel goes to war with the nation. The bill will be debated tomorrow and is expected to be a controversial piece of legislation. Speaker Schulz's office has refused to comment on the bill, stating that Speaker Schulz will make the case for his bill in front of Congress as opposed to the media.
