Hi everyone! This will be my campaign office for a seat in the Northeast Assembly, and hopefully also serve as my office once elected! Wink

I've been a participant of Atlasia for over three years with a few stints of inactivity for various reasons. My first home in the game was the Northeast where I proceeded to win a write-in campaign for Lieutenant Governor in June of 2009. My one promise was to reinvigorate the region by creating an assembly. After months of conventions, compromises, and dozens of drafts, I proudly gaveled in the first session of the NE Assembly in September, 2009.

I watched the body grow with great enthusiasm and pride, buy strangely, I never actually served in the chamber. I know plan to rectify that. I believe I must build my career in Atlasia over again, this tone from the bottom up - and where better than our great legislature?

A summary of previous offices I've held will be forthcoming.

Thank you all,
Barnes

If you've already been Lt Governor, why don't you just run for Governor.

I haven't participated in Northeastern politics for two-and-a-half years.  Before making any other moves, I want to familiarize myself with the region again, and also I don't want to be an electoral carpetbagger.

Thank you all very much!  My first speech will be given in Manchester, New Hampshire, this evening.

Just for everyone's info, I've been made aware that two Representatives are close to being expelled for inactivity; if this occurs, I will be a candidate in the resulting special election. Smiley

The Northeast has been entering a "lull" as of late, so it's good that you are stepping up to the challenge!

That's quite a sad fact I've come across since returning to the region. Thank you for the support. Smiley

Barnes I love your campaign logo! It's one of the best I've seen on here. What program did you use to make it?

It has a very nifty designer and you can easily copy the URL address of the proof. Smiley

Transcript: for immediate release to the press
Manchester, New Hampshire - 30 September 2012

I would like to thank you all for coming this evening to hear me!  I've been a longtime player of the great Atlasian game, and I was proud to call the Northeast my home when I first joined our nation.  It seems fitting to me that I should have rejoined Atlasia and the Northeast on the third anniversary of my opening of the Northeast Legislative Assembly in 2009.  That is an honor I will always hold dear.

When I decided to rejoin the political scene of our region I felt like I owed it to the people to rebuild my reputation from the bottom up.  I have released a copy of all of the offices I've held in this nation and I am quite proud of all of them.  However, I feel that my tendency to leave this game has sullied that reputation and the only way to renew my mandate of trust with the voters is to start from the bottom up again.  And where better to start than in office that is closest to the people - representative?

If you give me the great honor of your vote, I pledge the following goals:
  • I will work tirelessly to reinvigorate activity in our government and our region
  • I will introduce an amendment to our constitution that enshrines the "right to a clean environment" in our Bill of Rights
  • I will work to further reduce emissions from polluters in the Northeast
  • I will introduce legislation to refit all regional government buildings with renewable energy resources such as solar panels, etc.
  • I will introduce a patient's bill of rights and a consumer's bill of rights
  • I will push for an immediate review of wasteful spending and redundancies in our government - do not mistake me, I do not for one moment believe in "downsizing government," I believe in having an efficient government, which means we must reduce waste
  • I will advocate for an immediate pay freeze for all regional officeholders until regional unemployment falls below 6% for two consecutive quarters
  • I will introduce legislation to strengthen regulations on food safety
  • I will sponsor an immediate inquiry into "baby formula" products, their safety, their health risks, and concerns for newborns - I will also work to introduce a program to distribute free, healthy, and safe formula to all low-income families with newborns
  • I will introduce legislation to improve infant and childhood health and living conditions - particular in low-income areas
  • And finally, I will introduce legislation to improve regional infrastructure (a cause I know is dear to many of my colleagues' hearts) that will hopefully produce good, well-paying jobs.

All of these goals I pledge to accomplish, but it can only be done with your help.  Please consider casting your vote for me for Northeast Assembly.  Thank you!

I would like to thank Governor Nix for placing his faith in me and appointing me an interim representative!  I have introduced my first piece of legislation, a constitutional amendment that protects the right of every Northeast citizen to have a clean, healthy, and safe environment.  It can be found here.

I would also like to welcome Poirot to the special election to be held this weekend!  I wouldn't mind be running unopposed, but competitive elections are truly great for our region and will only help us! Wink

Finally, I'd like to welcome back my old friend, Dr. Cynic, to the region.  I have already endorsed him for the October assembly election and look forward to working with him in our great legislature!

My proposed amendment to the constitution has flailed to reach the required 2/3 vote for passage. Below is a copy of the statement I just made on the assembly floor:

Yes, my amendment has failed. Ah well, perhaps the next assembly will be more favorable to it. Smiley

In the meantime, I'll look into have a citizens' intiviative amendment places in our constitution to allow citizens to directly propose legislation for a vote of the people - but not, I think, constitutional amendments. Grin

I like your platform, so you have my enthusiastic moral support Wink  Is Green lobby still working? I'll support anyone who wants to introduce Carbon Taxes in Atlasia.

Unfortunately, the Green Lobby never really made it off the ground.  However, I would be open to restarting it in the future.

I did try to pass a cap-and-trade law when I was a Mideast Assemblyman, so I'd be quite pleased to work in something like it in the future. Wink

Only in Atlasia would a politician forget to make a victory speech! Grin

I would like to thank Poirot for making this an interesting special election and one where voters were given more than one option. I think he showed himself as a good candidate in this short, little campaign, and hopefully we'll see more if him around these parts.

I'd like to thank all of my kind and wonderful supporters who have been behind my campaign since day one. I will use this election victory as a mandate for the issues I feel will affect this region the most: the poor, the environment, and energy. I have already introduced legislation in the later two areas and will hopeful introduce some in relation to the former soon.

I thank you all,
Barnes

Haven't stopped by here in a while. Smiley

I feel like I've made some significant impact in my short time in the assembly so far and will hopefully continue to do so. I would greatly welcome any comments, questions, or feedback. Smiley

I will be running for re-election to the Assembly next month, so, I suppose I'll start revving this up as a campaign office again! Grin

Anywho, I've greatly enjoyed my time in the Assembly and feel like that both my colleagues and I, as well as Governor Scott, have accomplished a great deal for the citizens of the Northeast.

Yes, I've decided to also run for At-large senate! A more extensive release will come later, but I believe my time in public office can speak for itself - I will be a dedicated and determined member of our great legislative body, and I would be honored for your vote. Smiley
