The past east coast disasters of Irene and Sandy have made me interested in building a disaster bunker, but one that doesn't flood.

Also, the recent release of new info about the Cuban Missile Crisis makes me worried about how close we came to nuclear destruction.

Does anyone know anything about building Underground Bunkers?

I mean, they seem like a stretch in terms of necessity, but I understand that some sort of old storage box turned bunker product has made getting one a lot more affordable, but still really rather large chunks of money. I'm afraid I don't know much more about them than that description though.

One will be needed in a couple of decades, for sure.

Not really. After 9/11 we gathered some necessities in the somewhat secure back section of our basement because of our proximity to NYC. That probably wouldn't do us much good in the case of a severe natural disaster though as the house has been prone to flooding in the past. My parents did stay in the basement for Sandy, so maybe it does have its benefits. I wouldn't exactly call it a bunker though.
