You all know what the sexual depravity of serving in a combat zone does to a man?It is sick to see this publicly displayed... it is between West and his wife. The last line there shows his commitment- many men desire any available woman when overseas for years, cut him some slack!

clarence, I like your observation that serving in a combat zone is 'sexual depravity' - after all, it is incredibly unhealthy for a man to be forced to live without sex.

This is why it is much better for the soldier, his wife, the military, and society as a whole that he be allowed (encouraged even) to go disport himself with prostitutes.  Prostitution is an important part of a well-functioning society, and this idea that Rep. West and many of his ilk share that one should "seek the fulfillment of one's sexual fantasies with one's wife" is the truly sick and perverse notion.

While I shudder at the thought of defending Allen West, of all people, I feel that these quotations would certainly be more reasonable in context.

Ultimately, while I really don't like Allen West at all- he's easily one of the country's worst sitting Congressmen and the very definition of a HP- I don't feel that this scandal is nearly as bad as it seems. And yeah, he's incredibly anti-women, but it's a stretch to relate this letter to his political beliefs.

I think we can all agree this is totally unfair and a cheap shot, but the underline means - we should certainly make it.
