It's the Aspergers Syndrome emoticon (:spergin:). I feel obliged to use it in a disclaimer at the top of many posts I spend way too much time making, like when I research and gush over useless statistics, accidentally type out overanalytical essays while offering my thoughts on a meaningless and/or mundane news article, or spend hours accumulating and offering insanely trivial data.

Would probably also be apt for times like when I accidentally spent two hours researching for a relatively small post on a trivial topic, when I accidentally spent three hours doing genealogical research to post on an even sillier topic, or when I spent the better part of a day making complex, detailed, an fully cited arguments against a brick wall.

I'd also think it'd be good for whenever I try to make a simple response but end up researching my post history instead of eating breakfast.

Some pamphlet on the disease at some point used as a representative of the disease.  SA turned it into an emoticon ridiculing people who claim to have Asperger's without an actual diagnosis as an excuse for having poor social skills.  (Seriously, claiming to have a disease without a diagnosis is reprehensible behavior)
