Politicians have always been harmed by things they said in the past. Think of all the grief Ron Paul has gotten about his newsletters. This got me thinking about the rise of Facebook, Twitter and all of the stupid debates that go on on them. It seems inevitable that one day a politician will get in trouble for posting something racist/extremist on Facebook as a sophomore.

How long do you think it will be until major candidates are harmed by stupid stuff they post on social media?

I think people like to exaggerate a lot on this point. The first few times it happens, it'll be a big deal. Eventually, though, I think we'll get to the point where every candidate has an internet record that is less-than-stellar, and 30 year old Facebook posts won't matter.

I couldn't care less what the 50th President tweeted when they were 15.

^

But seriously, it could become a bit of a scandal initially, but it will die out eventually. If I run for office I'm definitely giving myself a fake name for everything lol.

Just keep a list of all the posts you need to delete before considering office. I'll need to bury that Wallace thing...

It's already happening. The main issue is when it hits its peak; after then, people won't care.

At least a gaffe here would bring the forum to national attention.

Who is "Skeleton," and what is he or she doing in the closet?

Apologies for the poor grammar.
