Statistically useless figure in terms of the Democratic leaning voters plurality. See this graph from the report:

They broke up all the religious categories by race but not unaffiliated. There are still more Protestants overall than unaffiliated.

I know that. Let me have my moment for what I consider to be progress for the non-religious community.

I'm surprised there are so few Hispanic Catholics.

As to the news report itself, eh. Sad

So one in five Americans actually have common sense. That is a much higher figure than I would have estimated. Tongue

The number of non-religiouses increased by 5% in the past years. That's really fast.

Hopefully, the reduction of Catholic churches via lack of interest in that religion will also lead to fewer instances of little boys getting molested by priests.

1) a lot of them can't vote
2) a lot of them don't vote
3) only 62% of U.S. Hispanics are Catholic, and those that are are more likely to be U.S. citizens and to actually vote

Yeah, Inquisiton was an ocean of civilization. One of the most mysterious things about U.S. culture is the strong (and weird) relation that many people here do between being non religious and being an immoral guy.

Insert mutterings about things like 'disenchantment', 'late capitalism', 'decadence', and while we're at it 'mappō' here.

An excellent rejoinder to claims by some Republicans and conservatives that ours is a godless party out to impose European-style state secularism on the hapless populace.

I find the graph rather dubious. Other is at 18? There aren't that many Jews/Muslims/Hindus/whatever out there. And as others have pointed out 5% is way too low for Hispanic Catholics.

Presumably it also includes hispanic protestants, non-protestant blacks, mormons etc.
