Is this you usual Obama Hack Troll question?

If Obama were to win, I'm sure all the Obama Hack college students here will be unemployed at graduation or joining the peace corps to get away from the US economy.

...and the Romney hacks will commit mass suicide to avoid the socialist (as soon as they actually understand what that means) hell-hole that awaits them?

No... there will be some wailing and gnashing of teeth... but in the end people will get on with their lives.

Obama will continue doing a very bad job as a "centrist" president.

I really don't understand what motivates so many people to be petty and mean-spirited and why it is so much more prevalent on the left side of the aisle, as indicated quite well by this thread and others.

Don't make such a silly generalization, there's mean-spiritedness in both sides...

Don't make such a silly generalization, there's mean-spiritedness in both sides...

Of course there is. But almost every single time I see petty gossip or insults being lobbied at a non-present third party, it's usually someone on the left attacking someone...else. And a lot of threads follow the general outline of: Poster A repeats generic right-wing talking points, leftist posters descend to shower petty insults and what not. Neither are particularly helpful, but one of them is particularly odious and poisonous.

On the record, I don't think there's a strong causal relationship between leftism and pettiness, even if it might seem on this board. There's probably just a lot of snotty, immature, little sh**ts who just happen to also be left-wing on the side. Of course, there are plenty of young people, whom I disagree with on almost anything, who are perfectly nice, likeable people. BRTD probably being the best example. But gosh, there are so many others...

This place tends to attract people, generally very young, who are highly enthusiastic, on both sides but find relating to other people's viewpoints next to impossible. But now my circle is a mix of people from across the spectrum, and we all get along. We might argue... but we respect each other as friends and anything heated evaporates quickly.

As someone who was a teenage conservative, but shifted away from it as I got older, I certainly understand how a person comes to different conclusions to me... but often that comes as a result of time and exposure... or you know, manners.

I also think we tend to not notice how obnoxious our 'own people' can be, when we might agree with them. I don't think any side is without blemish, nor is there any side that does it less often, so as objective as I'm able to be I think you might be a little sensitive to how some of the left respond to talking points, especially when they too can be charged and often delivered ad nauseum. It's just part and parcel of the mix of personalities and issues this place attracts.

I really don't understand what motivates so many people to be petty and mean-spirited and why it is so much more prevalent on the left side of the aisle, as indicated quite well by this thread and others.

Both sides expect to get ignored at best (you get nothing while the crony-capitalists who invested on the Other Side get what they want) or stepped on. At worst our political process has degenerated to a new spoils system in which the winners use government to enrich themselves irrespective of the harm that such does. If one side has an interest in wars for profit and selling off the public sector for profit even if such brings ruin, then we will get ruin if and when that one side prevails.

Service without partisanship is the ideal of democracy. Use of the government to enrich the well-connected at the expense of all others -- that's how things work in pathological orders like Iran today.

The Left knows what the Right intends -- huge reductions in living standards for working people while employers can demand longer hours of toil under harsher conditions, a shift of taxes to workers for the benefit of profiteers, wars for profit, quick-buck ravaging of natural resources,  environmental degradation, the promotion of superstition and pseudo-science in an effort to homogenize culture and create a People afraid to contradict the cruelty and dishonesty of their appointed leaders, the establishment of command0based politics, and (of course) the enrichment and pampering of elites.

The idea that the winners have no responsibility to the losers is the essence of vindictive government that invariably goes tyrannical. Maybe we on the Left have some arrogant attitudes toward superstition and pseudoscience because such things have neither improved humanity nor advanced economic or scientific progress. We don't endorse Pascal's wager  that we can live miserably in this world on behalf of uncertain benefits in the Next.

The Right fantasizes a "Real America" as Sarah Palin portrayed -- one in which undereducated, Bible-believing, white rustics dominate the culture.  That culture has no use for New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, or Boston.

You know, I was all set to say you were wrong, because we've had right-wing posters go into the polling and demographics boards and start trolling and stirring stuff up this year. But the issue is that there's a lot of trolling in general because emotions are high and since this board has more Democrats, and because (recent spike notwithstanding), it's still looking like a better year for Dems, it's harder for your side. Trolling isn't moderatable (a look at the polling boards proves that) and I don't think that's going to change, so all I can say is to make use of the ignore button and wait it out until the election after which everyone's going to be calmer.

Because we see your side as so bad that many of us would characterize it as 'genocidal'.
