As you said before, you don't have an nostalgic connection to Big Bird... but a LOT of people do... considering that was the biggest take-away from the Debate for most people... you know, apart from asking what Obama had been slipped beforehand... it's hardly a risky strategy to make things a little lighter.

It sort of beautifully plays into the narrative that Obama is running a diversionary campaign.

Have they even ran any adds yet touting the new job numbers?

Kind of silly they are focusing on Big Bird with all the other problems at hand, but I suppose they have to divert attention from the debate debacle somehow.

How about Obama mentioning Big Bird 15 times on the campaign trail the last few days, while mentioning Libya/Benghazi/2012.09.11 terrorist attacks ZERO TIMES.  Presidential fail.

Mitt Romney was the one who brought Big Bird up, not Obama.

I'm waiting for the "liar liar pants on fire, no we don't actually have an example..." ad from team Obama.

I'm waiting for the "liar liar pants on fire, no we don't actually have an example..." ad from team Obama.

Here are twenty-seven examples: http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/10/04/958801/at-last-nights-debate-romney-told-27-myths-in-38-minutes/

It's hard to relax when the best response the Obama campaign has against Romney's five-point bounce is a joke ad about Big Bird. This is the kind of thing you run when you're way ahead or way behind or you're Herman Cain.

It's not like it's the ONLY ad that's been released... it gotten public traction because of what it's about.

I still think the Dems need to relax, this race is most certainly not lost by any means, and we need to seriously stop acting like it is, because that becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy...

Are you kidding...who was it that said "when you don't have a record to run on, you make the election
about small things..."

This ad makes him look pathetically small.

The ad will probably get pulled, but the intention was most likely to go viral.

Caught it this morning.  Great ad.  Clever.  Funny.  I was searching for something--I forget what--but I was researching some topic from this forum actually, and I saw a picture of Big Bird on the bottom of the link.  Been seeing quite a bit of him lately, and I was tempted to overlook it, but this one featured that right-facing triangle on it that always signals a video.  I couldn't resist.  Imagine how delighted I was to see that Team Obama had made a mockery of Romney's mention of Big Bird in the form of a campaign video.  I think I actually laughed out loud.  Kudos.

It may backfire, though.  I could imagine it well having the opposite effect, but that doesn't really matter here, since we're judging art for arts sake.  And by that metric, it was pretty good.  Not as good as the Fig Newton commercials of my youth, mind you, but fresh and funny.

It's funny how he talks about that in 2008, and it's coming around to bite him in the rear in 2012.  Actions speak louder than words, but his words made an impact in his 1st term.

Cutting subsidies for PBS and NPR is not a big deal.  It will help curb the deficit with the growing over $16 trillion in debt the US accumulated.

While obviously not appropriate for mass airing, I thought it was pretty awesome.  Hopefully it will continue to get passed around on social networking sites.

Exactly how much will this contribute to deficit reduction?

Couldn't they have asked a SuperPAC to do this kind of dirty work?

Having watched it instead of just reading the thread.  This is actually a really good ad.  It reminds me of the John Kerry sailing ad of Bush, which was the best ad of that campaign.

I remember that one.  It was funny.  That one didn't swing my vote, of course, but it was an excellent ad.  I was living in California, before I was married.  I was sitting on my sofa, high on that excellent club chronic, watching some garbage on TV, and it caught me unawares.  That's the best way to discover most of these ads.

Except, wasn't it a Bush ad against Kerry?  Somehow, I remember it being Kerry on the sailboard, blowing in the wind.  Was I that stoned?

Yeah, Kerry on the sailboard, back and forth, flip-flopping... and also the whole elitism thing as the subtext... it was effective.
