Similar to BRTD's poll.

I vote all Democratic not because of tradition or simplicity, but because I believe in each case that I would prefer the Democrat (even aside from the party label).

I'm not sure how that would affect the tallying of the votes (the actual votes would be the same, but would it be listed separately) or the reactions--would my reasoning contribute that message?

Nah, mark each race. I'm only speaking on my behalf, but I think when people just vote straight-ticket, it shows some apathy towards each office. At the end of the day, voting straight ticket and marking each race end up with the same result, but at least you're acknowledging each race.

This was poorly misconstrued.

Mark 'straight-ticket' to emphasize the importance of voting for a machine, rather than an 'individual'.

I don't see the point in wasting the extra five seconds or whatever marking every box instead of just voting straight ticket since it'd be the same result anyway, but whatever works for you. Tongue

I've never been a fan of straight-ticket voting.  As was mentioned earlier, straight-ticket shows apathy to downballot races.  Plus, you might see a Republican you might want more than a Democrat.

No, vote for third party(green) candidates if you know the democrats will (lose/win).

Mark each race.  It shows that you're not a party hack.

And at least in Michigan, it does show up differently (they list straight party votes at the top of the county results, typically).

Might as well do a straight ticket if you're only voting for Democrats. No reason to waste time (and increase chance of error) for the principle of it.

I will probably vote a straight Republican ticket, but I'll take the time to fill in the ballot for each individual race, because I like the feeling of taking my time to fill in my ballot.

I agree.  But when do they list straight party votes at the top of the county results?

When the results are certified.

Mark each race, since it seems that your preference is not for the Democratic Party in general, but for the Democrats in each individual race.

I've never seen that on the Secretary of State website before.

Mark each race to pretend that you are not a party hack. Remember - they can't tell whether you're actually n-1 people who hid their straight-ticket Dem vote and one who hid his straight-ticket R vote, or n people who all supported a single Republican, this happening to be a different Republican each time. And "the other party are all such hacks, the only reason they win the lower offices is because you can vote straight party in this state" is a talking point we have seen.
