1824. With DeWitt Clinton, an Independent President, declining a fourth term, the Democratic Republican party splits into four different factions. From New England, John Quincy Adams. From the West, Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay, and from the South, William H. Crawford. Who will you choose?

Jackson was the only president with no debt, and fought the banks.

So him.

Clay, the best president (except for Humphrey) this country never had.

[1]Crawford
[2]Adams
[3]Jackson

(these three were very hard; Crawford got the Jefferson endorsement, while Adams was a good diplomat (ie: less war) and came close to paying off the debt, while Jackson paid off the debt and protected individual liberty (but the native removal thing puts him last)).

[4]Anyone else
[5]Clay

(this one was not).

Was torn between Adams and Clay.  In the end, I felt kinda obligated to vote for Clay, considering I'm from Kentucky.

I hate doing this because it reminds me of mondale, but...

Roll Eyes

Though I'd vote for whoever to keep Clay out of office.

I vote Adams because he was the strongest against slavery, but I like Clay too and probably would have admired his ability to compromise, including on slavery.

I voted Adams, but I won't cry over a Clay victory, either.

Last day of voting, there's around something like ten hours left for someone to break the tie between Adams and Clay.

Well looks like Henry Clay has won the election, though it will likely go to the House. Given Clay's status as Speaker of the House, he will likely win the House election. Map will emerge soon (in the next couple days).

The map's proving difficult to put together and not exactly easy to make. I actually had one made and was ready to post it, but for some reason I lost my post. The server was acting up or something.

Well, he would have been my third choice. He's up against some pretty tough competition. Tongue

how about this?

Clay 101 - Adams 93 - Jackson 58 - Crawford 9
(In NY, Adams wins 20 electors, and Clay 16.)

Hmmm, interesting, but I can't see Adams and Clay making a deal about the house vote, especially as they're head to head in 28.

On second thought, I think even without a deal, Clay could worm 12 states out of that.  Jackson is sure to take the 2-3 needed to deny Adams.
