Good thing CNN is last in the ratings.

The CBS poll seems more accurate. I tempered my expectations after the last debate but I gotta say, Biden had the edge, especially the bit about Ryan writing to him about the stimulus. He came off as the older and wiser grandpa type, if a bit testy at times- but hey, Obama thought he was too nice so maybe the campaign needed an attack dog.

If anything, the debate has stopped the bleeding.

Last time,
CBS was 46 Romney, 32 Obama
CNN was 67 Romney, 25 Obama

Time this,
CBS was 50 Biden, 31 Ryan
CNN was 48 Ryan, 44 Biden

CNN is consistently more GOP than CBS...

Wasn't Obama at 22% in the CBS one?

Yes, I just corrected it.

It was on TV a few minutes ago.  Aligned with the other polls, it's pretty much the outlier.

What was the viewer numbers like? This had to compete with 2 post-season baseball games still ongoing, one of which is the last of the series, and the other of which is currently in the 12th inning.

The snap poll also show that the debate was more or less a tie. Biden may have soothed the democratic base and Ryan did not screw up the Romney lead from the last debate, but in the end this debate will not have much of an effect.

The next debates on the other had could be decisive. It could be a cliff hanger until November

I believe the CBS poll is undecided likely voters and the CNN poll is general Registered voters. This is like 2004 when one poll showed Cheney won and another showed Edwards won. The media narrative then was that it was a tie but Cheney stopped the Kerry surge after the first debate win.

A snap poll showed that the debate was more or less a tie. Nobody except CNN thinks that.

Better: 55%
Worse: 26%
Same: 18%

This is also important, even within the context of the strange CNN topline.

Obama's bleeding stops, I think but probably no gains, I think. I honestly think Biden won overwhelmingly -- he came off as much more certain, more precise, more authoritative, and more coherent, and he also seemed to come off as winning judging by Facebook comments. Somewhat pleasant surprise to see Ryan leading any of the actual polling. Can't say exactly what the map is right now, as certain states have not been polled enough and in other states there's weird sh**t going on, but Obama had a lead before this debate of 281 electoral votes while Romney maintained a PV lead of less than 1% -- I'm putting the map up for posterity:

What happens next I don't know. If Biden can get a tiny bounce out of this, Ds will pick up Colorado and Virginia. If Ryan can, Ohio is next on the R list, and maybe Ryan specifically could provoke a Wisconsin reaction. I'm increasingly certain Ohio will be the tipping point state (I remember I was convinced, in the latter days of 2011, that it would be NH...)

Add to that:

Ryan did better than expected according to 51% of CNN voters, 19% say worse.

There's something perverse about these CNN polls relative to the reality all the other networks are experiencing, although I agree that it can't really be said that Ryan did worse than expected.

I love these die-hard Democrats.  Embracing any poll that shows Biden crushed Ryan and dismissing any poll that shows Ryan narrowly beat Biden.  So, those who think it was a draw or a slight Ryan victory are idiots?

Seriously man. As a Green you must detest CNNs bias as much as I do as a liberal Dem.

A clear Biden win.

The consensus isn't quite as dramatic as it was with the Obama-Romney debate, but the talking heads definitely seem to be giving the edge to Biden so far.

People can bitch all they want about the broader implications and accuracy of the CNN poll about who won the debate, but the idea that Ryan is more qualified, not more preferred, but objectively more qualified, to be President than Joe Biden, is utterly absurd.

Well, Biden did attack more. I don't think many people will dispute that. He needed to.

So, being likeable is more important than having a grasp of the facts and being truthful.  Gotcha.

To me it seems like Ryan did what he needed, come off as a likable guy, while making Biden look like and angry old man..

Not really.  The tipping point are the attack ads.  If Biden had been passionate about the issues, and not attacked, he would have won.

That said, I'd be surprised if this moves the polls.

I also expect Biden to be parodied on SNL.  Smiley
