Lost the coin toss, and so far down on Intrade from 63.3 earlier today to 60.9. Come on, Biden, turn it around.

The key to this is whether Biden responds to what Ryan is saying or just moves onto the next segment. The next key is whether he gets the last word on the next segment.

The only problem is that the moderator has asked Ryan 6 questions, to Biden's 1. If this keeps up, Biden is at a structural disadvantage.

Biden should dial down the aggression just a bit. What he's saying so far is alright though.

Joe didn't interrupt Ryan that time.

Moderator follows up with 9th question to Ryan, with 2 for Biden. Maybe Biden wouldn't have to be so assertive if the moderator would actually engage him.

Biden only talked for 2 minutes, then moderator interrupted him to ask her 10th question to Ryan. She only asked him 2 question so far.

Obama is definitely up on Intrade .. from 60.9 to 62-63. Romney dropped from 39 to 36-37.

Mine is showing Romney +.3 and Obama +.1... but I haven't followed it recently. Doesn't seem like anyone really "won" this one based on what the oddsmakers say.

That's based on 23 hours ago benchmark. I'm looking at it vs. 9 pm EST tonight.

Last time,
CBS was 46 Romney, 22 Obama
CNN was 67 Romney, 25 Obama

Time this,
CBS was 50 Biden, 31 Ryan
CNN was 48 Ryan, 44 Biden

CNN is consistently more GOP than CBS...

Wasn't Obama at 22% in the CBS one?

Yes, I just corrected it.

I think Biden definitely came off too aggressive, interrupted too much, and smiled too much. It's good that he was showing passion and being assertive, particularly as more questions were being directed at Ryan, but it's always a fine balance to strike with being assertive without being overbearing.

That's probably what's showing up in the CNN polls showing it a tie, because Biden had a better debate on substance.

However, the overwhelming fact about the VP debate is that it usually has a low impact. Every headline I'm seeing are using words such as "heated", "gets personal" "at each other" "lively" "contentious" "spirited" "comes out swinging", and that is exactly what Democrats needed-- an event that shakes things up. Biden accomplished that masterfully.

CNN Polls:

Who did a better job defending his running mate?

Ryan: 49%
Biden: 43%

Who did the debate make you more likely to vote for?

Obama: 21%
Romney: 28%
Neither: 50%

I wonder how Republican the audience for this was...

CNN had this note:

"SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUTION #2: The sample of debate-watchers in this poll were 31% Democratic and 33% Republican. That indicates that the sample of debate watchers is about eight points more Republican than an average CNN poll of all Americans, so the respondents were more Republican than the general public."

It's one thing where polls report party ID and partisan politicos such as ourselves try to make something of it. It's another thing altogether when the pollster themselves insert what they call a 'special note of caution' and give a specific number (8 points).
