Interesting stuff. Defections brought down the governing coalition (MFK-PS-MAN), and the Prime Minister initially tries his hand at a little coup (basically 'No, I will not leave my office. You can't make me leave this office.') but finally backed down.

The Coalition retained its majority, but the Pueblo Soberano became the largest party. PS is nationalist/separatist. Several Dutch lawmakers (terrible word, I know) have already stressed they'd be okay with an independent Curaçao (and PVV and SP are actively in favour of it).

No doubt some Dutch poster has a firmer grip of the actual situation, though.

EDIT: Fixed the typo.

Uh, they're not "Hill People", they're "a Sovereign People". Otherwise, apart from the whole Dissolve-the-Artificial-Construct-But-Annex-Some-Islands-into-the-Netherlands thing of recently, I know nothing about the situation and have nothing to add.

Yes, it's Pueblo Soberano. Party names are in Papiamento, which is the Spanish/Portuguese based creole language of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.

I am not that familiar with the Antilles, but basically the party that manages to buy the most votes (and you can take that literally) wins the elections. I'll try to write a longer post later today.
