The survival of the New Deal and Great Society are riding on Barry's performance tonight. No pressure.

Expectations Game:

Who do you think will do the better job in the (second) debate?

Obama 41%
Romney 37%

http://www.people-press.org/2012/10/15/voters-divided-over-who-will-win-second-debate/

So no clear favorite this time, apparently.

I'll be watching C-SPAN so I don't have to look at the annoying squiggles.

Intrade:

Barack Obama to win the second Presidential debate (according to CNN poll) 60.5% CHANCE

Mitt Romney to win the second Presidential debate (according to CNN poll) 42.5% CHANCE

Considering that even Ryan edged out Biden in the CNN Poll in the last debate, there's probably almost no chance of Obama winning based on this metric. Buy Romney!

I can't wait to hear a bunch of people here (coughJJBushOklahomacough) cite them relentlessly like they're manna from heaven.

Not.

You know I disappeared for a while, but I can definitely tell you've grown more partisan over the last year.

Oh damn... sigh... anyway, we're going from the last two snap polls, which over-sampled GOP voters by roughly 8%... they have bad samples.

and I'm as partisan as I ever was, but if I've moved it's because I realised just how awful Romney is.

Now, if Obama loses the CBS Poll by a big margin, you know he's boned. Tongue

I suspect that live debate watchers are also a bit older and therefore more GOP than voters in general. So that probably is reflected in the CNN poll. That being said, do they call cell phones?

The last CNN Poll did reflect a very Republican-leaning audience (R+2). Not sure about the cell phones.

I wasn't referring to what you're commenting about, but instead about how more angry you've become when talking about it. You used to be so much more even keeled.

You're now throwing around more swear words and how 'awful' the other candidate is. You used to have this attitude of this outside observer with his own opinions and now you seem increasingly more in the pig pen...if you catch my drift.

I'm usually pretty even, if Obama screws up... I'll say it...

But the stakes are incredibly high... much like in any election, the closer D-Day gets, the more the passion increases. One can be analytical and passionate at the same time.

'Awful' is the short-form version of many, many posts I've made about the Romney v Obama policy match, and I do think Mitt Romney's positions and lack of consistency do make him an awful candidate, and I have absolutely no faith that he'd be a good president. I didn't feel that way about McCain.

Sometimes you can't stay in an Ivory Tower all the time, sometimes you need to get down in the mud.

But win, lose or draw, once the election is over... the passion will recede and we return to normal.

David Gergen tweets that Mitt Romney is engaged in some grueling last minute debate prep, as he practices sitting on a bar stool (link).
