FTR, I won't support a substitute if it's focused on restricting consumer choice rather than promoting healthy lifestyles.

But I'll probably be out of the Senate by the time anything comes to a vote, so whatever. Tongue

Nay, since Franzl changed his mind. I will not be voting in favor of the legislation if I am still here when it comes up for a final vote, however.

Nay,

but if Marokai doesn't produce soon, well, we shouldn't discuss such things in public. Evil

Something similar to practices common in medieval Europe? Smiley

Lets just say that one hopes that everyone likes the color red, as there will be plenty of that "flowing" around. Wink

I offer two amendments, both of which include a name change. Which one is more acceptable/more likely to pass?

Both are very good, and I'm willing to take either as the best I can get from this Senate Smiley Thank you Marokai.

Personally, I'm more interested in preventing the refills, so I'm inclined to support the first one. Don't like the 16 oz minimum on it, but it's acceptable.

Neither is either acceptable to me either. In fact, they just seem like a more detailed and functional version of Franzl's original text. Please explain how I am wrong here, because I don't see a big difference.

Also if you are going to discuss potential texts and plan to pursue only the one people like best, don't offer them both as amendments! Tongue When you do that it limits flexibility and begins the process towards holding a vote on them both. Imagine if we had to vote and fail both of those, before moving forward.

Will you be quiet? Smiley

I'm unhappily accepting this as a compromise. The pro refill side has gotten concessions from me. This is nothing like my original idea Smiley

I've been around for a long, long time....and I'm in need of some restraint Tongue

Listening to the end of Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones right now and that part seemed appropriate.

No, you can't shut me up, you can't turn me down! Tongue

Now explain the differences, if you don't mind Senator? Convince Me! Earn my support! Wink

Franzl's version of the bill bans all refills on any drink served with sugar or alcohol, strictly and with no exemptions. The first amendment bans refills only on 16oz and larger drinks served in specified locations, with a higher sugar count than the original bill. The second amendment bans drinks outright 20oz and larger, which are huge drinks. Both amendments exempt milk and juice drinks, which the original bill didn't do.

They're just compromise amendments, meant to step forward a bit to the goal Franzl set out (and I agree with in principle) but don't do so too broadly too soon; creating more responsible drinking habits while doing so only stepping on the much larger excesses. It's much more middle of the road.

I still don't see a big difference, except maybe in terms of scope. The underlying process by which you are seeking to address this is the source of my objection not amounts, levels or to what extend you are using it...in Atlasia (Abridged Bandit Keith FTW! I am so ending every post in this thread with this catch phrase from now on). Tongue

I accept the 1st amendment as friendly as a substitute for my bill.

So a restaurant can still develop a 15.9 oz cup and give people as many refills of it as they want?

Yes, I think we're done. Might as well get this bill's defeat over with.

I appreciate the effort , Marokai...but too many here are acting all libertarian.
